The boats at Echo Lake Resort near South Lake Tahoe. I started here feeling still a bit queasy from my bout with food poisoning.
Aloha Lake
Still Aloha Lake. This is in the Desolation Wilderness, which felt neither desolate nor wild to me.
Dicks Pass and looking down to Dicks Lake. This was a really nice lake. I should have gone swimming. The water was warm and clear.
The sun is red because of the thick smoke in the air. Lots of wildfires were burning nearby.
Red sun in a smokey sky.
Visibility was limited
I'm not getting the flower setting right on my camera.
Richardson or Richards lake or something like that. The book said it was popular with OHV folks. You can still see the haze early in the morning.
Testing the difference between camera settings. I think this was the dawn/dusk setting and the next one was normal landscape setting. Or maybe the previous was dawn/dusk and this was sunset setting. I can't remember now.
Visibility was terrible
These lillies smelled wonderful
I thought somebody promised me 40 acres and a mule. Instead it turned out it was 40 acres of mule ears.
An artful natural spring
My first view of Lake Tahoe after spending so much time so close to it.
My destination was going to be that pointy peak called Tinker's Knob.
Tinker's Knob is getting closer
I'm almost astride Tinker's Knob.
Now I'm walking to its back side
I've reached the summit and here's a look back at the trail I just climbed and the other peaks nearby.
Smoke hovered in the distant valley
Walking this ridge below Tinker's Knob was great.
Covered railroad tracks near Highway 40 at Donner Pass.
The tunnel beneath Interstate 80. On the other side was a bulletin board with a phone number for Pooh's Corner, which I called.
