On the way to our first canyon, we stumbled upon a historical military show in the town of Camp Verde, AZ
A man dressed as an Austrian from early 20th century showed the boys some antique rifles
Galen learned a lot from this gentleman dressed from the Apache wars.
After a chilly night, we headed down the drainage of Bear canyon
The appearance of snow was a bit discouraging, since we knew there was swimming to come...
... but spirits were high nonetheless.
Alas, the snow was deep and ice thick when we reached the slot.
We found a small cave above the slot
Adam used a magic window to transport us to summertime, but it didn't work.
The first 'rapell' was an easy downclimb, but wet and icy, so I asked for a belay.
Galen was obliging
The first pothole was covered with a 3/4“ sheet of ice.
The water didn't look appealing so, I explored a bit
Adam followed me down into the slot
Galen watched from above
No point in delaying any longer - I plunged in.
Alas, the next pothole looked substantially deeper - a swimmer and also covered with ice. My courage shriveled. What a shame - it looks stunning!
We retreated, but it was still a fun day!
