A blurry photo of the interior of the cathedral in Jaen. It was huge, reminding me of St. Patrick's in NYC.
Gah...are none of my photos here in focus?! Also inside the cathedral.
I found this incredibly funny. They had them in Baeza, too. Basically, they're like the old votive candles you lit by hand. Instead, it's electronic. You put in a coin, and one lights up for you.
Ah...a shot in focus. This is the organ in the cathedral. Well, at least the organ pipes, as seen from where I'm standing.
The same painting of St. Michael. I figured I should try again. I managed to get the fence in focus instead. Bah.
It's just so...tall.
This was in the center of the cathedral. Neither Kathy nor I knew what it was for. Classes? It reminded me of classrooms from Cambridge.
The altar in the cathedral.
I wanted to include people in the shot of a sense of scale. This is inside the cathedral.
Again, for sense of scale.
Another side alcove.
This saint gets more gold, I think.
God was apparently kind of grim at times. This is part of the floor in the cathedral. Probably my favorite shot from the building.
Another alcove.
Still inside the cathedral.
I took a photo of this, since I was fascinated. First off, it's not a crucifix. Second, there are little figures on the ends of the cross, and on top of it. I grew up Presbyterian, so an empty cross is more what I'm used to. (Kathy grew up Catholic) But, we didn't have the little figurines on the cross either.
The inside of the main doors to the cathedral. They need ropes and pulleys to open it.
The coat of arms of Jaen.
This bears some explanation. We didn't have a map. So, I tried taking photos of a map of town that was posted. I figured I'd zoom in and we could use the camera like we had a printed map. Good in theory. It didn't work as well as I'd have liked.
More of the same.
Last one. This is the one I needed much larger.
The cathedral, from where we where while walking toward the castle.
Part of a defensive wall.
The surrounding countryside.
More countryside. But not in focus this time.
That's the castle on the left. We never reached it. We underestimated the walking distance, and didn't have any water with us. If we had water, we would have been fine. That's a cross on the right, standing on the hill.
Another shot of the castle and cross.
And again.
Government building. Jaen is the provincial capital. (Actually 'Jaen' is the name of the province, too)
The streets here were much more organized than those in Baeza. But they were much busier, too.
Lemon trees and orange trees seemed to grow in random locations. This is in a small pedestrian area.
The power company in the area. I liked the logo.
Another shot of the cross on the hill.
A second try.
When I saw 'Burguer Queen' next to an Irish Pub, I had to take a shot of them both. They both seemed so out of place.
More foliage. The palm tree and the weird conifer behind it really struck me.
I was focusing on the trees.
Again, looking at the tree, primarily.
Street with the castle in the background. We're walking around looking for the ancient bath which is supposed to be in town.
Same, only closer.
Local government building.
Birds in a cage outside someone's window.
Cool building. I don't know what it was, but it looked cool.
This was a neat statue.
Closeup of the top of the statue.
Closeup of the base.
