In early June, we met at the Wendell Free Library, a new building that is being seen as a model for "greening" a library.
Wendell's head librarian, Rosie Heidcamp, talks to members of North Quabbin Energy about how the library was designed and built.
Janice loves getting down into the basement! In this case, there's lots of foam insulation to look at.
The beautiful children's room at the Wendell Free Library.
Rosie Heidcamp discusses the library's electric and heating bills, which are offset in part by PV panels and well-insulated walls, with Janice Kurkoski and Pat Larson of NQE.
The after-school youth program at the Athol Area YMCA made "winserts" for the Valuing Our Children building in Athol this spring. North Quabbin Energy assisted with materials from our New England Grassroots Environmental Fund grant.
Manuel King, director of the after-school program at the Y, joins the winsert crew in their new T-shirts at a celebration to mark the end of the project.
The YMCA kids made a great display about the winserts, including this one showing the "Tools of the Trade."
In June, NQE joined many other groups at Red Apple Farm in Phillipston for the official inauguration of the farm's 15 kilowatt wind turbine, installed this winter.
Guests at the ribbon-cutting event check out the new wind turbine!
Al and Nancy Rose, owners of Red Apple Farm, spoke at the celebration.
Guests checked out the North Quabbin Energy table, among other offerings.
It's official! The ribbon is cut for Red Apple Farm's 15 kw wind turbine.
At the Petersham July 4th parade, the Petersham town energy committee showcased energy-saving and energy-producing technologies, including (left to right) wind power, an electric bicycle, battery-powered lawn mower, and super-insulation!
Ken Levine of Petersham built the parade floats, which were pulled by various kinds of power (including muscle power!).
State Representative Anne Gobi (left) visits with Bill and Ellen, local electric bike afficianados who rode two of the three electric bikes in the parade.
Petersham's Larry Buell, in character as 19th century farmer Lucius Spooner, encounters a 21st century "green car" (one of a small fleet of Priuses to join the energy committee for the Fourth of July parade).
