The river trip from San Lorenzo to Nauta took 11 hours. We traveled down the Marañon to the Amazon and disembarked at Nauta, where we caught a bus to Iquitos.
Fortunately, most of the day was beautiful -- no rain, not too cloudy, not too sunny. The river itself was quite still, so the jungle and the clouds made spectacular reflections in the water.
Traveling in the front seat of a speedboat zipping downriver, the wind is pretty strong and chilly. Fortunately, the lifevests provided extra warmth as well as extra padding for the unforgiving seats.

Thank goodness for watertight equipment cases -- the front of the boat had no cover, and though it never rained hard, lots of splash entered the boat. But hey -- the cases are a bit the cleaner for it!
Fun with the camera
As soon as Chris got the digital camera out of the watertight case, Lev turned it on her!
Rain over there
Rain over there too!
Rain ahead... but we skirted it.

A special moment: having one of our treasured salty plums to tide us over until dinner.
