Crimpiau 2012

"Got away with it" was the general opinion afterwards. Forecast was grim, but north of Penygwryd the sleet abated. However on reaching the bwlch between Crimpiau and Craig Wen, our leader wisely retreated in style towards the flesh pots of Capel Curig. Namely the Bryn Tyrch hostelry. Diolch i Dewi.

Adit Penmorfa July 2011

Here are some pictures taken underground in Llandudno. The workings are reached by a crawl of 170m along a 900 mm concrete pipe then a 700M walk in water varying between 30" and 10". The adit took 8 years to build in the 1800's and is dead straight. A combined meet this one Martin Scarratt led a climbing party on the Idwal Slabs with Gerallt taking a large group of botanist up to Clogwyn y Geifr, where they were lucky enough to see the Saxifraga Cespitosa.(the fourth image) I'm not sure which route the climbers did but from some of the photos it looks like one route was Tennishoe. The main slab routes all look the same!

Rhinogydd Easter 2010

A long walk this one with 3000 feet of ascent. There were some tired feet at the end. From the Nantcol side a steep ascent was made up Moelfre afterwards ascending Llethr droping down and then up Diffwys before following the old drovers track over Pont Scethin to the cars.

Dewi Jones led this exhausting walk which from the car park at Rhyd Ddu was in thick snow, which gradually became deeper the higher we climbed. On reaching Bwlch Main the party wisely decided to retreat faced as they were by thigh deep snow, untouched by previous walkers.

Moel Berfedd a Cwm Dyli 09

A low level alternative to the route in the programme. As leader I was the only one obliged to turn up, why on earth the other ten turned up in such atrocious weather will remain a mystery to me. We parked at Penygwryd and set off in what can only be described as less than perfect conditions up Moel Berfedd, the low hill which lies between Penygwryd and Pen y Pass.We had a cuppa at Pen y Pass before continuing along the Miners track to Llyn Llydaw, still raining...hard. Here we dropped south into Cwm Dyli and followed the Glaslyn down past the waterfalls to the power station. Walked up the old road back to the Penygwryd where I had arranged for the management to provide pints for £1!!!

Bwlch Saethau 09

A wet day following a fine spell of dry weather did not deter John Parry and his followers up onto Yr Wyddfa. A bus was caught at Pont Bethania in Nantgwynant to Pen y Pass then along the Miners to Llyn Llydaw and Glaslyn. An escape then was made up the steep scramble of y Gribin onto Bwlch y Saethau before descending the Watkin back to the cars at Bethania.

An excellent day. Martin Scarratt the meet leader had sought permission for an approach to the nantlle Ridge from Dyffryn Nantlle. Six of us set off from near Tal y Mignedd Isaf to climb up to Y Garn. It was weird approaching a Welsh top without any signs of a footpath. We descended the long spur that falls northwards from the obelisk on Tal y Mignedd, and the weather as you'll see was perfect.

Sentries Ridge, Craig y Bere

Four climbers, Dafydd 'Amlwch' Jones, Keith Jones, Dilwyn Jones and Rob Piercy. The route was Sentries Ridge on Craig y Bere, a little visited cliff in the Nantlle valley, notorious for being very loose. Dafydd had found a fine line up a series of gendarmes. The only difficulty really was coping with the strong wind on an exposed knife edge.
