Eco Education Workshop, Center for Creative Ecology www.kibbutzlotan.com
The Center for Creative Ecology (CfCE)'s Eco Education Workshop building is located in the EcoKef (EcoFun) environmental education park on Kibbutz Lotan. The earthquake resistant structural elements - exposed posts, beams and trusses, are RHS steel. The lower roof (ceiling) is a 15cm thick sheet metal clad styrofoam SIPs, The upper shed roof, providing ventilated shade is a PV ready 5 cm SIPs. The porch uses date palm branches - a local agricultural waste product - provides shading and rain protection. The construction team included kibbutz members and volunteers. The straw bale and earth plaster work was managed Dana, a graduate of our Green Apprenticeship Permaculture and EcoVillage Design and Training program together with Kfir, a former CfCE staff member who are now accomplished natural building contractors. The construction of this building was made possible by grants from the Ministry of the Environment, The Jewish National Fund and Amutat Tzel Hatamar.
