The challenge is about transportation, so the first week they build a train and Christian runs it at top speed.
Tori focuses on the task of building a vehicle.
Giant mushrooms are also fun to build with LEGO!
Daniel's vehicle carries a frightening skeleton horse.
Mark created a futuristic trike.
For week 2, we took a field trip to see a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robotics competition. Teams here compete with a robot they built and programmed themselves.
Week 3 begins with a lesson on gear ratios and some model building. This one turned out to be a 2-speed motorized dragster.
They also built train cars to transport different things: freight, livestock, people, and coal.
Who doesn't love a train?
Here's the coal car with a crane arm.
They told us the rear passenger car included free WiFi!
In week 4 we decide on our topic for the challenge. We will research, study, and build the various methods of transportation and machines used in the making of a pool table. From raw materials to arrival at your door.
Delaney and Trey show off their pool table models.
Daniel's pool table includes a slot for automatic ball return!
Taylor included a couple of trees and some flowers, just to make things prettier.
Team Wonder Builders!
In week 5, we studied the slate that is used for the bed of the table. Trey searches for the perfect windows for his slate-moving vehicle.
Jack's slate carrier has multiple wheels for strength and two attached cars.
Christian made a nice forklift for the heavy pieces of slate.
Trey's slate carrier included a safety wall to protect the driver.
The forklift loaded with slate.
Christian demonstrates the forklift with some slate from Jack's carrier.
Delaney's boat contains a large water-tight cargo hold to keep the slate dry.
Tori's boat also carries a large amount of slate.
Cyndy helps the team with one of the more complicated model builds.
Tori, Trey, and Jack complete the base of the model build.
The team was fascinated with the pulley system used in the crane.

In week 6, we talked about the logging and transportation of mahogony. Trey's container ship carries the wood from Central America to the U.S.
Christian's logging truck also carried a chainsaw and other tools. Mark's spider logger sits nearby.
Delaney's log transport has large wheels to handle the uneven terrain.
Tori and Taylor made several mahagony trees.
In week 7, we learned that the billiard cloth was transported by tractor-trailers.
Christian's tractor-trailer includes a cab with the necessary tools.
Tori's cargo plane carries the wool and she's holding a cart with small sheep in it.
Trey's truck grew wings and is co-piloted by a monkey!
Delaney holds small and large "rolls of cloth" that are transported by her all-terrain vehicle.
Daniel's cargo plan was a super fast flyer.
Jack's truck is special made for wool transportation.
