This handsome 18th century boxwood and ebony set came through the workshop recently. It is similar to a set once owned by Philidor, (See Gareth Williams Masterpieces, )
The condition for this period is quite remarkable. There are some minor blemishes, such as dogs tooth marks on one of the pawns. It has been sympathetically restored on the odd pieces which needed it. (two rook crens two pawn collars and two other chipped bases)
As this a genuine example of a rare type, I intend to post pictures (later) comparing it to one of the reproduction sets of this type which I have on order from a chess maker in India.
