Left click on the pictures to see a larger image. From a CCI magazine, dating this type of english set to 18thc.
This is the actual set owned by George Washington. The picture is from Liddell. This album is to explore the amount of variation we should allow in clasifying sets by this appelation. (George Washington) I will not allow dealers to use it to 'fluff' their stock by passing off old English bone sets with urn stems as G.W.
King height 95mm
A similar set from Cooper Owen 2002
A bit of difference in the kings, I've since made a new top for the red king. It now matches the white one
This is from my 1810 edition of Philidor. The set is certainly 18c.(before 1799)
Front
This set has the early style of rooks, but a later looking knight.
This set has all the requirements to be equated with George Washington's set. The early knight and rook, however strangely it doesn't have the contrasting 'pointing' on the brickwork on the rooks.
This set does have the contrasting 'pointing' on the bed and perpendicular joints of the simulated brickwork.
A bone Washington set, 90mm king.
