Berlin ho! I'm not saying the woman in the chariot is easy. I'm saying our pictorial tour of the city is commencing.
Here's the full Brandenburg Gate.
Under der Linden
We started off our tour meeting at SeaLife, the Aquarium Verena manages. This is the final stop at SeaLife, this monstrous aquarium with an elevator in the middle.
Elo admires the fishes.
Verena manages an aquarium, and doesn't like fish.
The old cathedral with the needle at Aleksanderplatz in the background
City hall in former East Berlin.
Allowed to crawl up public statues. Never in America. These are the kind of things that amaze me.
'Sup Bert!
An abandoned department store turned into an art incubator/commune/toilet.
Inside's all graffiti with studios in the rooms, some people live there, raves happen.
Cheese! You can almost smell the urine from your where you're sitting, huh?
Nice shot.
The Reichstag from afar.
The Krauts took an entire Greek temple, as well preserved as any, and reconstructed it indoors.
But the highlight of the Greek museum was the Babylonian entry seen here. It extended away from the front for a good 50 yards. Really stunning tile.
Everything fun in Berlin seems to be in the Eastern part. They've reconstructed most of the city, but every once in awhile you'll see something like this, an old ratty facade next to a gleaming one.
From closer up.
From up top. That's Verena dancing a jig of some sort.
From inside.
From high up inside.
Elo and Verena at the Holocaust memorial.
I always find Jewish cemeteries are always spare, ancient and poetic for some reason.
Checkpoint Charlie.
Up close in the city center.
Not only did we take pictures of the balloon (the largest tethered balloon in the world, by the way) we went up.
Verena's afraid of heights and/or confined spaces, so smiling for this photo was an achievement.
All of us.
This is a view of the contstructed downtown (all of it came up after the fall of the Wall). Notice the empty space all around the few high rises. Unique to Berlin and a product of building along a former hostile front.
View from the living room Verena's great apartment.
Cheesy last shot. Awwww.
