Dell Inspiron 9300 Hinge Repair canidate
Open the lid of the laptop and locate the pop tab on the right side of the power button strip.
Using a screwdrive, pry gently
Lay the lid flat and lift the plastic strip gently popping it loose from the sides.
keep wiggling it until it comes all the way off.
Set this aside as you will need it later during reassembly.
Fuzzy sorry about that, screws to be removed are 2 on the hinge.
Also remove the 2 on the right, but first there is a cable going thru to the bottom of this model, we will have to flip her over to disconnect this cable first.
on the bottom, the upper left panel is the one you want.
the black and white micro coaxial cables need to be popped off of the intel wireless card. (they go to the antenna in the lid)
Slide them back thru the hole.
now you can pull all 4 hinge screws and disconnect the video cable.
Pull all 8 screws from the top of the screen, then make use of the pry points to remove the top bezel.
Once the bottom is loose, gently pop the sides and top free.
Note, go between this and the next screen to see how much slop there is in this hinge.
Wow, like 1/8“ of slop, it's actually better with the extra screw in place.
pull the hinge screws and drill out all 4 screw holes with the appropriate bit from Ace Hardware.
Be sure to clean up all those conductive bits of aluminum as they will eat your laptop motherboard for breakfast if they get loose inside your laptop.
start the tap in the hole, then twist all the way down until it extends out the other side of the hole.
I like to stop short of the last 3 threads.
Tighten a new screw 4-40 thread
screw in the other 6 shroud screws and tighten the last 2 as 4-40 screws (I've used 1/4“ long ones so they grab lots of meat.
Sorry about the fuzzy pics, Install the hinge screws to the case.
This is the video connector, just align and press down with the video cable plug.
Click!
Tightening up the last screws on the hinge.
now thread the wires thru the hole to the other side of the laptop.
here they come out the other side.
Push them gently into place until they latch and will rotate. Replace the cover.
make sure to thread the video cable under the catches to keep it in place.
align the tabs on the left side and snap the catches in place.
with the laptop lid flat open, continue pressing the plactic into place. - Congratulations, you have fixed your laptop.
