This is a typical breakfast: bread and cheese, fruit (those red bananas are sweet and delicious), and instant coffee. Dinner looks the same minus fruit and substitute instant coffee for tea or hot chocolate milk.
We have soup to start every lunch (almuerzo). This is chicken and vegetable.
sopa de acelga
locro de sambo
Melloco Guizado y aji. Ketchup is at every almuerzo...my friend Kendra would enjoy this.
seco de chivo
menestra de frejol con chorizo y patacon
molo con ncarne frita, huevo duro y rabanos
pastel de carne molida con brocoli
pastel de zanahoria blanca con carne al jugo
Some talapia I had on vacation at a restaurant.
With just about every lunch we have a pitcher of fresh fruit juice from tomoatoes, bananas, apples, pears, oranges, and other fruits that we don't have in the U.S.
Ecuador's beer “Pilsener”
Chulpi. (REAL Corn-nuts).
Caca de Perro y Garrapinada. These are a variety of corn cooked with chocolate and caramel. The light brown is the 'caca' and it means dog poop.
Of course, sometimes you just need some of the Colonel.
Horno de Chancho (This is slow-roasted pig with a salsa of tomatoes, cilantro, onions and sugar water; along with cheesey mashed potatoes, hominy, lettuce, and avocado). Muy Rico!
A giant empinada for breakfast...yes please.
