2009 Peacekeepers Day celebrated at Peacekeepers Park
286 Canadian soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in international peacekeeping operations have been honoured.
Hundreds of people gathered Sunday afternoon for Peacekeepers Day 2009 services to remember the brave men and women killed.
The names of all of the Canadians soldiers were read aloud in the presence of dignitaries, family, and friends of the fallen as well as war veterans.
It was an emotional service for many, with mixed feelings of sadness and pride. But there was also a sense of unity and the crowd, many who have lost loved ones, gathered together to honour all the soldiers.
This is the sixth year that a Peacekeepers Day ceremony has been held at Calgary's Peacekeepers Park, located in the southwest community of Garrison Green.
