El Gran Corso de Wong

I was on my way to chow down on some ceviche yesterday and ran into a sweet parade featuring traditional Peruvian music, dance, and dress. The "Gran Corso de Wong" is an annual festival put on by one of the major supermarket chains in Lima to celebrate Peru's Independence from the Spanish Empire on July 28, 1821. The celebration was postponed due to fears of the AH1N1 virus.

ACT - Accion Conjunta de las Iglesias (Action by Churches Together)

Action by Churches Together (ACT) International is a global alliance of churches and related agencies working to save lives and support communities worldwide (www.act-intl.org). I took a 3 day trip with various ACT representatives here in Peru to make connections, learn more about the alliance, and to see what other organizations are doing to improve the quality of life in areas of the country still suffering the effects of the Aug. 15 2007 earthquake. This album is a photo journal of work being done by various humanitarian aid orgs and churches in earthquake devastated areas in the Chincha and Huancavelica regions of Peru.
