Fr Keith's 40th anniversary

Father Keith celebrated the Parish Eucharist at St John's on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. Here are some photos of the celebration which followed.

St John's City Parish church choir and congregation sing Evensong at Llanbleddian, St John the Baptist, near Cowbridge, and take tea in church with the local congregation afterwards. Then, a visit to Llanmihangel Parish Church, another of the Vale's hidden treasures, followed by a banquet at neighbouring Plas Llanmihangel, a 16th century manor house, mostly in its original condition. The occasion? A farewell celebration to the Vicar on his retirement.

A reception in the restaurant is followed by a guided tour.

This is an exhibition of paintings by local artist Brian Gardiner. He has drawn and painted townscapes and rural landscapes in and around Newport, Cardiff and the countryside in between over the past fifty years. His preferred medium for painting is pastels, and a picture can take months to execute, as he always works in situ in all kinds of weather, seeking to distil the essence of the scene into his portrayal of it - hence the exhibition's title, conveying Brian's artistic sense of purpose.

PaintingExpo

'Cardiff through the painter's eye', is an exhibition of Keith Hall's pictures, painted in and around Cathay's Park and Roath Park, Cardiff. Having trained in the West of England College of Art and exhibiting locally and nationailly, Keith was lecturer in Art and Design Education at UC Cardiff School of Home Economics. In 1992, he took early retirement to start St. Anthony Fine Art Gallery, Heath. Wishing to concentrate on his own painting he closed the gallery in 2006. Since then, all his work has been sold to raise funds for various charities. It is his way of returning some of the magnificent support which he and his loved ones have received over many years.

Construction is complete, work furnishing the interior of buildings for use well advanced. The opening dates have been announced for the John Lewis Store (22 Sept 09) and the new St David centre with arcades (22 Oct 2009). The race is on to complete public realm work, equip shops and restaurants, prepare completed car parks for opening to the public.

Parish Pilgrimage 2009

A visit to Croft Castle and gardens, a National Trust property for over 50 years, followed by Evensong in Leominster Priory, the town's Parish Church, founded in 660. The oldest part of the present building is from the same period as the foundation of St John's Cardiff, and gives an idea of what ours might originally have looked like.

St John's Churchyard new path-making

Between January and April 2007 a new East-West pedestrian path and gates were created to open up the long-closed south section of St John's Churchyard, as a beautiful quiet garden at the heart of the city centre.
