Greek Mythology

We have visitors from Texas Tech University come and make a presentation about Japan to our 2nd grade classes. We even learned how to greet our teacher in Japanese.

Election

As we studied the election process we decided to have our own election, but with a twist. We took each step of the election process and applied it to the election of a snack for our class to have on Friday. We held primaries, made campaign posters, and voted. When the results were revealed some of us were excited and others were disappointed...just like in real elections. We had lots of fun. By the way, popcorn won as the snack choice. Mrs. Oden could not believe that popcorn beat chocolate cake!

Reading Celebration 10/10/08

To celebrate a successful launch of our Readers' Workshop, we invited our parnets and a few Rush staff members to come celebrate with us for a time of snacks and reading. It was awesome to be able to show off our terrific reading skills! Way to go everyone. And, thanks to all the adults who came to celebrate with us.

Landforms project

After studying various landforms found on our world we created each landform using foods. The key located at the top of the box tells what each food represents. Thanks to Pizza Hut, CiCis Pizza, and Orlando's for the donation of pizza boxes for our entire 2nd grade team. Also, thanks to many parents for food donations.

continents and oceans

We spent time this week learning about each continent, its location, size as well as different animals, foods and plants found on each. We made salt maps, painting each continent a different color and labeling them along with the oceans.

Each student selected a Greek god, goddess or mythological creature to research. We had a great time hearing reports, eating ambrosia and drinking nectar.
