The collector box. It is made from a sheet of 3/4 inch WBP plywood. The sides are made from pine.
The pipe loop (upturned). Constructed from copper pipe with brass elbows and tees. The small pipes point upwards, at either end, are the cold input and hot output pipes.
Close-up of cold input. You can also see two white plastic pipe clips for holding the loop in place. Between the clips is a hole for the cold input pipe.
Two holes were drilled either side of the pipe so that a copper wire can be threaded through to hold the collector firmly against the loop.
The ends of the wire were twisted together to hold the collector against the loop.
The collector is now firmly resting on the pipe loop.
The assembled collector with galvanised steel collector plate wired to the pipe loop beneath it. All that remains is for the collector to be painted matt black and for plastic glazing to be put on top of the box.
The completed collector with glazing over the box to keep the heat in. You can see the collector plate and copper tubing behind the glazing.
