Temple University Ambler Campus - Cold Frames.
The campus has 6 sets of frames for growing
The walls are made of cinder block; the bottom is small gravel
A great repurposing opportunity. The tops of the cold frames are recycled building windows. They simply lay on top of the walls
The frames hold 7 windows wide, but you could make your own any size.. How many plants do you want to start?
Here's an example of more repurposing: A handle was added to the edge of the window for easier access. It was made out of 2 eye hooks some heavy gauge wire, and some hose!
Have window frames with no glass? Use clear plastic and attach with staples. Recycled garden tags were used to reinforce the plastic
Plants in their pots inside of the cold frames
Harder to see, but just some seedlings
Some more plants!
Temple University Ambler Campus cold frames. Small pieces of wood are used to brace the windows.
Update on the Ambler Campus cold frames: Lids off! It's 85degrees. And the plants here are looking great! Ready to be planted in the campus gardens!

Template to build a birdhouse from a salvaged piece of wood with the littlest amount of waste.
A different template for building a birdhouse. This one will leave you a 2x20" piece of wood great for a few garden stakes.
Here are the birdhouses I made!
I used some of my scrap wood to make these pieces to hold on the lid.
At a dump in Branchburg Township, New Jersey they have a swap shop where you can leave/take fixable/usable items for free.
Some of the items in the swap shop the day I was there: chairs: plastic/metal. Kids toys, furniture, decorations, kitchen table.
