The original insulation in a 1960's ranch-style house. The insulation had settled and the batts had separated from each other, leaving a patchwork of uninsulated areas. All ceiling joists were exposed.
The contractor took a measurement before installing the cap of new cellulose insulation. The attic had about 5 inches of fiberglass insulation.
This is a rafter baffle. These were installed to maintain good soffit ventilation.
