Carrie B. and Carrie C. (we have too many 'Carrie's!!) enjoying our front row seats.
The monkey. He spent his whole dance chasing after a pretty fish girl. I can relate, Monkey!
As ferocous as the mask looks, this monkey was very humorous!
The monkey finally catches his fish... girl. Good for you monkey!
One of the Kinnaree, half human, half mythikcal creatures of Hindu heaven. If you've eaten at a Thai restaurant, you've probably seen paintings of these.
Close-up of wings.
One of the band members playing the Pong Lang- similar to a xylophone.
Although you couldn't see his hands very well, this was an awesome drum solo!
The coconut dance- performed by the young unmarried girls.
A folk dance that reflects how local people search fro red ants' eggs for cooking.
Every time they emptied the basket, all the dancers would jump around and brush off the ants that crawled out- the old “Ants in the Pants” routine. Classic.
A little more then just collecting ants?
Happy drumer!
I left this picture un-cropped so you could see how close we were!
This is a rooster- part of a dance that was a group favorite: Rooster Fighting!
The opponent, preparing for battle!
The fight starts- the roosters meet in the middle! Guy in blue is the official.
The guy in the background would play that wind instrument and it would sound like a rooster call! This dance was hilarious! And one of the best parts is that the girls playing the roosters never broke character!
Red going for a kill! (Guy on left is red's coach)
Red goes down! Green's coach (right) gloats!
This was the time between rounds where the roosters would be encouraged by their coaches and cleaned/hyped by other fans. The girl on the far left is the student who attends our school.
Round two!
Red goes for the kill! And wins!
Another great performance- these two guys had a show down.
As in almost every performance of the evening, there was a great deal of humor in this one. Both contenders were extremely arrogant and they constantly tried to win the audience's approval.
Oh! Red takes a hit!
This lucky guy got pulled out of the audience!
Red takes a beating! Although, in the end, it was a double KO!
The Dance of China-Thailand Friendship. Mixed the traditional Thai style with the Chinese Fan dance.
The Fan Flower at curtain call.
The cast!
Carrie with the cast! Lucky!
Other Carrie with the cast- lucky!
