Council Conversations

Council Conversations Recently, the Grade Sixes had an opportunity to meet and discuss local issues with Surfcoast Mayor, Libby Mears and Councillor Rose Hodge. This took the form of an informal chat with the students asking many questions about issues such as the Spring Creek Development, skate parks, fire readiness and dogs on beaches. The students proved they are informed citizens who take an active interest in where they live and what they would like their community to be. The Mayor was very impressed with their level of interest and the way they conducted themselves throughout the session

Team Building Day

Team Building Day On Friday, 6th February the Grade 5/6 students went on a team building day at the Anglesea Recreation Camp. They completed four different activities and learnt how to work together and cooperate.

Health Day

On Wednesday June 18 all our students became chefs and restaurateurs preparing a three course healthy meal. They then became the diners who could enjoy the extravaganza that they had created. This gave them plenty of energy for a very active afternoon, when the children took part in a twelve station activity circuit around the oval. A fantastic healthy day was had by all.

World Harmony Run

On Thursday May 29 we all went up to the Bellbrae Reserve to meet the runners participating in the World Harmony run, a global torch relay, seeking to strengthen international friendship and understanding.

Bike Ed

Bike Education commenced on the 19th of May and ran for two weeks. Students learnt about bike safety, how to handle a bicycle over different surfaces and rider etiquette. The program climaxed with a ride to Jan Juc.

Prep Excursion Marine Discovery Centre

April 18 was a very special day for the Preps as it was their first school excursion. For many children it was their first time on a bus. After a stop at the playground in Barwon Heads we went to the Marine Discovery Centre at Queenscliff. We then had lunch and a play down near the pier. After a walk on the pier we built some sandcastles before heading back to Bellbrae.

Grandparents Day

Last Friday the Gr. 1/2’s held a Grandparents Day where we invited our Grandparents to come and visit our school so we could learn about what it was like when they went to school. We all dressed up in olden day clothes. We had lots of Grandparents visit and they told us many stories. Some of them rode horses to school and sometimes they only had one classroom and all the students were in together. They didn’t go on excursions or have special days like we do. We took them on a tour of our school and then we did different activities like marbles, checkers, skipping, hoops and writing with a quill and ink. The Grandparents then had a special morning tea. It was a great day and we learnt a lot. By Gr. 1/2

The Shrine of Remembrance Excursion

The Shrine of Remembrance excursion took place on the 9th of April. Students travelled by train to Melbourne. Students were guided around the Shrine and given an insight into the experiences of those soldiers who experienced war.

Crazy Hair Day

On March 14 it was Crazy Hair Day. The students gave a donation to have crazy hair or hats. The money will be used to support those children and young people living with Cystic Fibrosis. After a fun parade, the students enjoyed some refreshing watermelon as part of the Free Fruit Friday program.

Walkathon

On Friday November the 2nd the students took part in a walk-a-thon to raise money for the Vision for All foundation. The students raised more than $1780 which has been donated through the Torquay Lions Club. Well done to the Bellbrae Primary School community on a great effort.

Science Day

Awesome fantastic science day! I would just like to thank everyone for their participation in our Science Day Activities last Friday and especially the teachers for bringing all the experiments together and making it all work. It was a fantastic day with the children experiencing many different science experiments involving water, wind, balloons, flight, potatoes, ping pong balls and many other weird and wonderful things! They also experienced the extraordinary Cosmodome where I can assure you there were times when you were not sure if your feet were on the ground or not!!!!!! What an exciting day! National Tree Day

On Schools Tree Day which was part of National Tree day for Australia our children planted 211 trees at the back of our school to help form a wind break. It was a fantastic effort considering how cold it was. A big WELL DONE to all the children and in particular to all the parents who so generously offered up their time to help, it could not have been done without you!! A very special thanks to Rohan, Charles and George for running the whole show and spending the whole day on the project.

Graduation 2006

On Wednesday December 13 we celebrated the Grade 6 Graduatation. It was a fantastic evening with the year six students giving us an insight into how they viewed their time at Bellbrae. The way in which they presented themselves was a credit to each of them and their families.
