Winter Greens
Season extension is a great way to harvest more food from a small Boston garden. Low tunnels are an easy, affordable method for season extension. Last fall at City Natives, we built low tunnels out of plastic, bike rims, row cover, tomato stakes and rocks. In December, January and February we harvested greens from the tunnels and donated them through the Produce to Pantries program. We chose hardy greens that can withstand the cold, including spinach, tatsoi and mustards. The greens are still growing, and we plan to continue harvesting through the Spring!
