Rafting - Lower Kern

My seventh rafting trip, just Kirt & I this time. We did the Whitewater Voyages' 2-Day Southern Sierra Escape down the Lower Kern River. This was Kirt's second trip. We made some new friends at camp and on the raft. One of them, Brad, was one of Kirt's high school classmates. Kirt & I were boat mates with Steven and his son Johnny "Fuego" - Ashley "Snake Charmer" was our guide again. The trip lead was Brian, and the other guides were "Baby Blue", Bruce, "Casual" Josh, "Moan"ica, and good ol' Rob.

The Getty Villa - Antigone

Carl, Elinor, Sandy, & Bob go to Malibu's Getty Villa to check out the museum and see a reading of a the Greek Tragedy Antigone. I'd never seen a "work in progress" presentation before. There were no sets or props, the actors had minimalistic costumes and carried their scripts as they spoke their lines. It was very cool! We took a break from the Villa and drove a couple miles to the downtown Santa Monica Third Street Promenade where we had dinner at Johnny Rockets. MMMmmm... Tasty.

Dresden Files author Jim Butcher

Elinor, Carl, Sandy, and I go to Mysterious Galaxy Books in San Diego to get our copies of the latest Dresden Files book, Turn Coat, autographed by the author, Jim Butcher. The event was part of the bookstore's 16th Anniversary and they had some live music and snacks. We stopped for lunch at Islands and desert at McDonalds afterwards. A good time was had by all!

Sub-Foundation Leak

I was called at work, there was a leak in our apartment, I got home to find no leak *in* the apartment but *under* it. A hot water pipe under the slab was cooking our home and was finally showing external signs by flooding the parking lot. The workins, Carlos and Manuel, jackhammered through the concrete in our bathroom, then our room to find and repair the leak. Friday night we were allowed to stay in a hotel room (The Day's Inn, it was ok). Work was completed Saturday.

Universal Studios

Sandy and I spend Thursday night at Comfort Inn & Suites in Hollywood and then go to Universal Studios on Friday. We spend the extra for a Front of Line pass. Expensive, but great! The Simpsons, Shrek 4D, and Mummy rides were awesome! The Backlot Tour was skim after some fires there earlier this year. And this fateful trip was the end of my camera, which was shorted after I got two buckets of water dumped on me during the WaterWorld pre-show. C'est la vie.

Kaweah River Rafting 2008

My seventh rafting trip was once again with Whitewater Voyages but this adventure was taken for the first time on the Kaweah River, 2-Day Sequoia Gateway. This river is hardcore, helmets required fun! With an average decent of 60'/mi (Kern is only 30'/mi), the rapids are wild and non-stop! Elena, Jen, Jay and I were in the Spirit/Wave Dancer with guide "The Hammer of God" Ian.

Sandy & I decide to "get-away", get off work early, and stay Friday night in the Holiday Inn behind Disneyland. We met up with Amy and had a good time in the park. At the end of the night, Sandy & I walked through Downtown Disney on the way back to our room and from the hotel parking lot we watched Disney fireworks.

Disneyland - 2nd HalloweenTime

Here are photos of Amy, Sandy & Bob at the 2nd Annual Disneyland Resort Halloween Time. While visiting the Pirate's Lair we failed again to get Sandy a posed photo with Jack Sparrow, he was too busy being curious over the "treasures" we were carrying. We did manage to get pictures with several other characters including Cars' Mater & Lightning McQueen, the rarely seen Sheriff of Nottingham & (Briar) Br'er Fox and the new Skeleton Goofy, Candy Corn Acres Goofy and Pluto. The later two are part of the new California Adventure Candy Corn Acres. This colorful set of Halloween decorations is inventive and amazing! We watched the Block Party Bash parade, laughed at people getting wet on the Grizzly River Run, and took lots of pictures of how DCA looks before the renovations promised over the coming years.

Sandy & I spend a couple of days in Manhattan where we see Spamalot on Broadway, visit many sites including Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and Ground Zero. This was my first trip to NY (Sandy's 2nd). We then drove up to Cooperstown where we met Kirt, Karen and family to see the National Baseball Hall of Fame for the Induction Ceremony Weekend of Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripkin, Jr.

Rafting - Lower Kern - 2007

My Sixth rafting trip, fourth with the Riversidians and Whitewater Voyages' 2-Day Southern Sierra Escape down the Lower Kern River. This was Kirt's first trip ever and it was a blast. Jay, Richard, Melissa, Amber, & Kirt were in my boat with guide Ashley. The trip lead was Marv. The other guides were Ama, Chris Reeves, & John. Water levels were lowest I'd seen, meaning lots of rocks and many swimmers. Good times!

Disneyland - Pirate's Lair

Shane, Kellie, Sandy & I go to DLR to check out the new Tom Sawyer's Pirate's Lair attraction. John-George & Devon met us for half the day. We turned in our last VMK Quests as VMK Central closed on 06/03, and got to see the new Subs ("Resurfacing June 11") in action as Cast Members sneak a peak. The Pirate's Lair had neat effects and was lots of fun. Afterwards Shane rides the Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes for the first time. The evening closes with a Monorail trip out to Downtown Disney's ESPN Sport Zone for dinner to watch the Ducks in a Stanely Cup game.

Star Wars Author Karen Traviss

Jeff's favorite Star Wars author, Karen Traviss, was in town for a book signing. He's chatted with her virtually over Yahoo and they've become a sort of friends. Since Jeff is off in Germany (and soon to be Iraq again), Sandy & I went down to get her latest book signed for him. The store was populated by fans and members of the 501st Legion. Karen had a Q&A segment followed by the signing line-up. When our book's turn to get autographed she happily remembered her Sgt. Clemins and was glad to meet him "by proxy," graciously posing for a couple personal pictures.

El Capitan & Disneyland

Amy, Sandy, & I went up to Disney's El Capitan Theatre on DLR Annual Passholder Day to see Pirates of the Caribbean III - At World's End. Note that during today's adventures the part of the Gimp will be played by Amy who's recently had foot surgery. While waiting in line at the El Cap, I took pictures of the theatre and the cast of Pirates that were there to entertain the crowd. Once inside we had time to visit the Prop Room. Prior to the movie we were entertained by a restored 1920s Wurlitzer organ - Amazing! The theatre was decorated and lit to set a Piratey Mood. We watched the movie (Great!) then cruised on down to DLR on the way home so Amy & Sandy could pick up their final VMK Quests. I scored a 2nd set myself, along with 4 cast-only lanyard pins. We took some time to ride a few rides, and got the VIP Gimp treatment, the highlight of which was going Up the Haunted Mansion's Stretching Room, watching all the pictures restore their subjects to life. Creepy. Thanks Amy!

Disneyland - Mom & Dad's Day

Sandy & I purchased DLR 1Day Parkhoppers for Mom & Dad for Mother's & Father's Day. The announced closing of DLR's VMK Central on June 3rd prompted the early trip without Sandy (who wanted Mom & Dad to get their final Quests) on Dad's day off. We three had a fantastic time including a "Dreams event" when I was given a pair of Tinkerbell Dreams pins (that I gave to Mom & Dad, of course).

Sarah's 2nd Birthday Party

Sandy & I went to Kirt & Karen's daughter Sarah's 2nd Birthday Party. Steve, Fran, Karen's parents, and others were there. Sarah's actual b-day is March 2nd, but life gets in the way sometimes. Heh. Ladybugs were the theme, hence the red and black colors. Pizza, cake, & ice cream were eaten. The kids played games and enjoyed frame making crafts and coloring. Also Kirt & Karen's new van was debuted.

Padres Petco Suite

PetCo gives Sandy's Department access to their Suite at the ballpark. She got tickets for herself, her dad and I. The game was great, good times all 'round. Padres win over the Cards 7-0 on Retro Night. It was a shutout game that included 11 strike-outs by Padres pitcher Jake Peavy (1st Padre to get 10+ Ks in 4 consecutive starts), a "Star" caliber catch by Giles, and 3 Padre HRs. For two innings Sandy & her dad were able to sit in the PetCo Dugout section seats. Primo!

We got to ride in a Millennium cockpit, take pictures with various costumed characters and see assorted movie props. We spent some time in a beautiful Rose Garden we found outside the Center.

Disneyland - Halloween Treat

On Halloween Sandy & I stayed in the Red Roof Inn, a Friend of Disney. This was our VMK Stitch Travel Package stay and the first year that Disneyland has truly decorated DLR during "HalloweenTime" including a special DCA event: Disney's Halloween Treat. At the event Sandy & I met some VMK friends, Pumpkin, Little Pumpkin, & Zooks. Sandy & I came back the next day for Goofy's Kitchen to find the Halloween theme gone and Christmas decorations fast in place.

Rafting - Lower Kern

Just as August last year, Dad, Sandy, Amy, & I drove up to the Lower Kern on Friday, stopping in Riverside at the Spagetti Factory. We stayed the night in Ridgecrest traveling the remaining distance to the River Saturday morning. But this year we met Nol and Chris at Frandy Park. The six of us went down the Lower Kern on the one day Big Water Run. This was Nol & Chris' first rafting trip.

Birth - Colin Patrick Clemins

These are pictures from the birth of my second nephew Colin Patrick Clemins, born in Germany. My brother Jeff's wife Steffi gave birth after only 4.5hrs of labor. Colin weighed 3,370g (7.43lbs) and was 53cm (20.86") long. My first nephew Julian is pictured as well.

Rafting - Lower Kern

For Father's Day '05 and Amy's 30th B-Day Sandy & I took Dad & Amy river rafting with Whitewater Voyages on the Lower Kern River's 1-Day Big Water Run. We drove up to stay the night in Ridgecrest Friday evening, stopping at the Riverside Spagetti Factory for dinner. On Saturday morning we continued on to Kernsville and took our trip down river. This was Dad & Amy's first rafting trip. Coincidentally our guide was Rob (the same Sandy & I had just a few months earlier). It was a fantastic trip!

Disneyland - InspEARations

Sandy, Amy, & I went to DLR to see the "Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations" - In tribute to Mickey Mouse's debut on November 18, 1928 seventy-five actors, musicians, animators, athletes and Disney legends each designed a six-foot tall, unique 700-pound interpretation of what Mickey means to them. These statues were toured around the country and would be auctioned for charity.

Texas Visit for Shawn's Graduation

Shawn graduates from Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyvilly, TX. Mom & Dad Lee, Amy, Sandy & I visit Shawn and his parents Cindy & Richard at there home in Grapevine, TX. While there we visit a Gaylord Texan facility on which Cindy consulted in the building, their fancy mall, and Sandy, Shawn and I Six Flags Over Texas.
