This is the very small plane we took from Manilla to El Nido. Do we look nervous?...
Did I mention how small the plane was? I wonder how old it is?
After the plane ride there were two boat transfers we had to take to finally reach our destination...El Nido.
It was well worth it. A private island resort...very romantic! El Nido is made up of hundreds of small islands. Everyday we visited several islands and participated in various activities...
A beautiful resort...
We could choose to take a dip in the pool or jump into the ocean just a few few away.
A morning view of the ocean from a lounge chair.
Need a fresh coconut? No Problem!
Exploring the caves of El Nido...
Time to explore the many lagoons on our own...
Another cave.
Snake Island...
Looking over the water from the top of the island...
Someone took the time to build a sand castle...
Time to dive...
One of the many strange fish we saw...
We even climbed the limestone cliffs on one of the islands.
While Kayle climbed, I enjoyed the views...
Almost to the top!
Time for me to give it a try.
Sunset at El Nido.
After several days of rest and relaxing in El Nido, we left to continue our tour of the Philippines. Next stop...a ferry ride to Corregidor island where the American and Philippine soldiers fought bravely against the Japanese soldiers in WW II.
Kayle standing next to the statur of McArthur, who pledged "I Will Return" when he left the Philippines.
One of the many guns on the island.
The American/Philippine army withstood 4 months of bombing before they finally surrendered to the Japanese. We were able to see the effects of the bombing everywhere. This was once a dormitory for the soldiers.
This was the tunnel where the majority of the soldiers stayed during the months of bombing.
I was always on the lookout for a comfortable hammock.
After Corregidor we headed to the Taal Volcano. You can see it in the middle of the lake here...
To get to the volcano we had to take one of these boats accross this large lake...in the rain!
Once we arrived on the island we were given a small horse to transport us to the top. This was not your typical pony ride...we were pretty much on our own going up these steep inclines on slipperty mud. Luckily we had a guide walking beside us...perhaps to catch the horse if it fell down?
We finally made it to the top! We were the lucky ones. Our guide had to walk the whole way!
On Top of The World!
This is Orlando...our tour guide. Can you believe he put up with us for 18 days????
The Taal Volcano is still active...
Back on the mainland!
