San Salvador airport, El Salvador where my bag had a nice little holiday on it's own for a week :P
A pretty window in the town we stayed in on our first night: Valle de Angeles
Our first (but definitely not last) unusal mode of transport
Stop for a couple of seconds in traffic and someone will try to sell you something: from newspapers, to food, to mobile phones.
Apparently someone wanted Jesus to be President...? Great idea, I say!
The most common mode of transport in Honduras
Um...apparently we were meant to heat our water with this element thingy (fortunately our running hot water began working not long after this was suggested to us) :)
Jane hard at work, day one at the IHNFA childcare centre, La Esperanza.
Luis, my little soccer buddy playing amidst the rubble on the basketball court.
This was what I got everytime I tried to communicate: "Smile!" (for a photo) by doing the gesture myself. I soon learnt the spanish word "Sonreir!" instead :)
Where else would you clean your teeth but over a ditch? ;)
Lost in translation....
and again ;)
This really looks terrible! We decided to buy a knife and some fruit in San Pedro Sula so we could get our own breakfast before our early bus trip to Copan: doesn't that look dodgy!!
The many sellers everytime our bus even paused :)
A guy on the bus wearing his machette.....!!
A beautiful roadside view on the way to Copan (don't look too closely at the typical roadside rubbish :) )
Jennifer and I (and a birdy mate) at the Copán Ruinas (the Mayan Ruins in the west of Honduras).
The Copan Ruins!!! (kidding, this was just a 'ruined' toilet block on the way in ;) )
Jane and me in front of part of the Copan Ruins. The kingdom here existed from the 5th century AD to the early 9th century. It remained largely unknown by the outside world until explorers visited it in the early 19th century.
The 'gringos' at the ruins: Jane, Stefan, Jennifer and me.
In the lovely (touristy) town nearby.
Bus travel in Honduras: ex-U.S school buses packed to the rafters.
Back to the more common mode of transport: the pick-up truck: bumpy but fun!
On board the pick-truck on the way back to La Esperanza.
I've never been so excited to see a piece of luggage in all my life (after 1 week without it)!
Luis singing about Señor Jesús! Check out the trumpet solo!
Scaffolding: wooden.....
A view of La Esperanza.
The kids at IHNFA, just before they went home. They cleaned their teeth after an afternoon meal - and then were given lollipops!
Samanta and Sonia sing and dance, Honduran style :)
The kids and staff at IHNFA.
Love this bread brand!!! HAHAHA!
The gringos heading back to the dust after an afternoon at a bizarre resort near La Esperanza.
Jane, me and our lovely host family.
Our last adventure in La Esperanza. A bloody big hike up to Los Hoyos and the cloud forest.
Here's the cloud forest....
...but we didn't get much further (spot the two bulls at the left and right of the pic: that's why we decided we'd come far enough :) ).....
The gringos at our farewell drinks in the only bar in La Esperanza: Line (from Denmark), me, Serena (Canada), Marianne (France/UK), Jennifer and Siobahn (Melbourne), Stefan (UK/Brazil/Portugal) and Jane.
Belize City: my smallest plane ever (15 seater)!!
On the way from Belize City to Dangriga
Jaguar Reef Lodge, Hopkins, Belize. Under the staircase on the right was our room. NB proximity to the ocean (The Caribbean Sea!) on the left!!!!
Wow! Our bathroom when we arrived!
The view out our french doors (nb blue =ocean!!!)
mmmmmmmmmmmmm
The dining room cat, checking out the view.
Our first afternoon, soaking up the sun.
The pool, and the ocean!!
The 'other' pool :)
arty? maybe?
A coconut getting washed by the waves....aaaahhhhh
This photo is not crooked, the houses (in nearby Hopkins) are!
How many kids can you fit on a bicycle?
Jane, me and the Caribbean Sea!
A wedding taking place at the resort we stayed at.
What more could you need?
oh yeah, cocktails!
mid-snorkelling trip on the Belize Barrier Reef (2nd largest reef in the world, after The Great Barrier Reef in Aus!).
Our Australia Day (26th Jan) tats! Hardcore!
Garifuna dancing/music display.
Church in Hopkins 20 mins after we were told it began.....still waiting for someone to arrive :P
Our drumming lesson
Love this pool!!
We got an upgrade (on our 45min flight ;) ) to business class: this is us luxuriating in the spacious seats :)
