Picket at Congress: Revoke Proc.1959! (Martial Law in Maguindanao)

Members of Bayan Muna partylist today held a picket-rally in front of the House of Representatives in Batasan, Quezon City to demand the immediate lifting of Arroyo's martial law in Maguindanao. They warned that Proclamation 1959 may serve as a model for the imposition of martial rule in any province even without the requirements specified in the Constitution. The leaders of Bayan Muna also condemned yet the latest of Arroyo's unconstitutional acts and said the people must not let such an overreaction pass. The protesters gathered at the main gate at 10a.m. and vehemently opposed what was called as "an emerging Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo military dictatorship". They urged Congress to protect the people's rights at all times.

Filing of Manifestation of Intent to Participate in the 2010 Polls

Beating the deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy, Bayan Muna (People First) partylist filed its manifestation of intent to participate in the 2010 polls today even as it denounced President Gloria Arroyo's latest move to vie for a seat in Congress. The Bayan Muna contingent, led by Rep. Teddy Casiño, Rep. Neri Colmenares and Atty. Joven Laura, marched to Comelec this morning with renewed vows of continuing the struggle for the politics of change. Rep. Casiño, the partylist's number one nominee, condemned Arroyo's bid as “an utterly despicable and shameless act of a megalomaniac.”
