USDA-BRA Cooperative Agricultural Project - Dominican Republic

In 2009, USDA funded BRA a two-year agricultural project to put, as a part of a Cooperative, 7000 farmers-members back to work 1500 acres of fertile land in 7 batey communities in the province of Monte Plata, to create food security and economic self-sufficiency for 35,000 people.

NOBEL PRIZE CANDIDATE, HAITIAN WRITER FRANK ETIENNE MET WITH BRA.

Nobel Prize Candidate in Literature, Haitian writer Frank Etienne met with BRA's CEO and key officials to discuss the organization's humanitarian effort in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The private meeting was held over lunch in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Batey Relief Alliance and BRA Dominicana presented a life achievement award to Dr. Ruben Silie for his work as a historian, ambassador, professor and scholar. The event took place in Santo Domingo at the Academia de la Historia.

USAID/BRA Food Distribution Program in the Dominican Republic.

USAID and Batey Relief Alliance partner under the Food for Peace-International Food Relief Program to distribute each year 75 metric tons of food to 5,000+ people living with HIV/AIDS, vulnerable/orphaned children, pregnant women and the elderly living in impoverished batey communities, urban slums and border localities of the Dominican Republic.

Minister of Health of Haiti Visited Batey Relief Alliance's projects in the DR.

Haiti's Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Auguste and a five-member delegation traveled to the Dominican Republic to meet with Batey Relief Alliance and BRA Dominicana's board of directors and strategic partners to study plans to develop collaborative health projects at border towns of Haiti with the Dominican Republic.

Batey Relief Alliance discussed expansion with Haitian government.

The US-based humanitarian aid organization, Batey Relief Alliance, met in January 2008 with several top Haitian representatives, including the country's Primer Minister, Jacques Edouard Alexis, to discuss the organization's plan to establish a permanent humanitarian mission in the Republic of Haiti. Prior meetings were also held in 2007 with Haiti's Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Auguste, the Minister of Diaspora, the Minister of Planning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and local legislators.

Batey Relief Alliance's first 10-year anniversary celebration of humanitarian services.

More than 500 attended the event, including media, diplomatic, religious, political, NGO and government officials and batey residents. Long-time supporters, employees, volunteers, and founding board members received awards and medals of honor. The organization's founder and CEO, Ulrick Gaillard, accompanied by BRA Dominicana's Executive Director, Maria Virtudes Berroa Sabino, received a special recognition for their devotion to the humanitarian cause. On the occasion, BRA also inaugurated its new medical center complex, the first inside any batey of the country, an HIV/AIDS Treatment Unit and a new dental clinic.

Batey Relief Alliance hosted Haitian superstar Emeline Michel in the Dominican Republic

Haitian singer, Emeline Michele traveled to the bateyes of the Dominican Republic where she was received with joy by her compatriots and their descendants. Ms. Michel also sang Haitian folk songs to the crowd and discussed their living conditions. In 2007, Ms. Michel wrote a song in honor of a young girl (Maricela) who is orphaned and vulnerable when her two parents died of HIV/AIDS. She too is battling the virus and receiving antiretroviral treatment from the Batey Relief Alliance.
