Steampunk Bustle Dress Project
I'm working on a project to put together a steampunk/neo-Victorian ensemble in an early 1870s bustle style, only without a real bustle, so I can actually wear it around. I have some lovely, historically accurate Truly Victorian patterns that I bought for a different project but have yet to use that I'm going to play with, and an alarming Butterick pattern with a faux bustle that I'm going to attack. This promises to be quite the undertaking, as fitting is always nightmarish with my curvaceous figure, the bustle shape isn't going to drape the same way over the faux bustle so the skirts and petticoat will have to be fiddled with extensively, I'm going to drape my own overskirt and fiddle with the bodice design, I'm going to be doing a millinery experiment, and oh yes, I have to make a new corset first, as my old one does not and never did properly fit my copious bosom. Yikes.
