St Mary's Lake St Mary's Glacier and Fox Mountain Hike
I got a book for Father’s Day called Colorado Summit Hikes for Everyone. So we were looking for something to do today and I came across Fox Mountain, which overlooks St. Mary’s Lake and Glacier. It was listed as easy, 0.6 miles to the summit with only 451’ of elevation gain and boasted a whopping 10,921’ summit with a touch of 4th class climbing to attain the pinnacle.
We headed out and with only one down from carsickness, we made it to the little town of Silver Lake and we began our hike.
We took it unusually slow, but had a great time.
St. Mary’s Lake is in a fantastic setting and St. Mary’s Glacier above is incredible.
We rested and snacked in the shade of the pines above the eastern shore of the lake and then we struck up the rocky trail along the crest of the NW ridge of Fox Mountain.
We crossed a short, steep talus field, Boone in the lead and gunning for the summit and then scrambled up a gully and slabs to a windy exposed saddle between the twin summits.
