pumpkins, pumpkins

ari loves pumpkins so much that we decided to take him to a pumpkin patch where he could try picking his own. he picked out lots and attempted to pick up quite a few as well. his favorite part of the pumpkin patch, however, was the animals in the animal barn, which he refers to as 'mahs.' and, yes, he loves to help his dad grind the coffee in the morning - he gets quite anxious if he hears it happening without his help.

september days

ari LOVES to water the garden, which makes life easier for me since he's actually decent at it. it's become an evening ritual for us. he also recently began saying, 'bubble' when we wash in the bathtub, so he was especially excited the other day when he got to play with bubbles at book babies (at the library)! ari also went to his first soccer game. he loved looking out at the field and the lights with our friend, chuck. we had another alberta street fair, where we decided to insert ourselves into the parade between organizations. i'd like to say that ari was the hit, due to his neon green hair and sweet drumming, but i think the parade goers were more into his dad...

bumbershoot

ari rocked hard at bumbershoot with beck, arthur & yu, thao and the get down stay down, jakob dylan, etc. he also enjoyed viewing shorts from seattle's int'l film festival and watching australian acrobatics. he most enjoyed playing with all of our friends' cats. he now says, 'mow' with regularity.

ari likes to make faces every second of every day: when he is jammin' with friends, eating dinner, hiding in the dryer, riding in the backpack, eating mother's day brunch, playing with dandelions in the crooked shack, etc. it never gets old.

ari hosted a big birthday celebration in his backyard. he had lots of friends and sushi and carrot cake! luckily, our new fence was somewhat completed and the sun shined, so it was a beautiful day. we love our friends!!!

dc or bust!!!

ari had some important business to attend to in our nation's capital so i went along with him to document his travels. he did some pretty impressive lobbying at the capitol, after observing some of our national memorials and smithsonian museums. he also took time to eat out, enjoying sticky rice and the famous burgers and fries at five guys. his trip almost turned nasty when brad and angelina tried to kidnap him in his sleep for their 5th child. luckily, he woke up in time and decided that settling for me as his mom wasn't such a bad thing. afterall, i do let him drink as much soda as he wants with his burger and fries... all in all, it was a good trip. he and paula had some great bonding time and decided to become pen pals.

hospital visit

ari decided to spend a week in the hospital, so got sick with the flu - throwing up with a week and a half's worth of diarrhea. who knew babies could get dehydrated in 2 days enough to be hospitalized? luckily, we made it there for tuesday night - hollywood theatre's family movie night with free treats and a showing of ratatouille! thanks, ari!

ari was so proud of his aunt elsa and her friend, caitlyn, because they came to run the portland marathon. he was so excited about their performance that he celebrated naked! eating his toes! and then he rocked out to m. ward, who sang him to sleep...

we finally assembled ari's crib so he can PLAY in it. so far, cousin lincoln has been the only one to get any 'real' use out of it. but, it's pretty!

lincoln's visit!

lincoln surprised us with a last minute visit to the pacific northwest. he spent the weekend at the coast, but then stayed a couple extra days in portland so that ari could claw at him and, occassionally, try to eat him.

ari had a long, enjoyable musical evening, attending the built to spill concert. after the show, doug martsch (singer from the band) held ari and played with him, much to our pleasure! then we came home to join our neighbor, randy, in celebrating his birthday - wigs and all.

ari and i drove aunt julie to seattle for the bumbershoot music & art festival. we saw the avett brothers, menomena, aqueduct, gogol bordello (our favorite), and devotchka. sadly, we had to let julie ann go the next morning so she could return to being a college student...we liked her better as a nanny.
