Trier - Hauptmarkt - Marktkreuz (erected 958) - Market Cross.
Trier - Hauptmarkt
Trier - Cathedral - Dom St Peter - Romanesque with mostly baroque interior decoration; Dedicated to St Peter; Orients South-east-east; Dedication is tough to date as it has had continuous worship here since the 4C (the oldest part of the church), but most of the structure is 11th-12th century. There has been a Christian community here since the end of the 2nd century though and it's likely an earlier structure existed. Extensive excavations beneath the floor have revealed Constantine mosaics. The structure has 6 towers which is fairly unusual. It's relic claim is a holy robe that Christ wore which attracted many pilgrims as well as a nail from the Crucifixion. It was heavily damaged in the French Revolution and world war II and reconstructed.

Trier - Church of Our Lady - Liebfrauenkirche - Gothic with an even-crossed floor plan. Altar is oriented South-east-east. Dedicated to Mary and the present building dates from 1235-1260. It stands directly next to Dom St Peter and there is a hallway connecting them. It is significant as one of the earliest Gothic religious structures built in Germany.

Trier - Church of Our Lady - I would venture a guess this is a memorial to those who died in the Great War - the dates seem to indicate that.

Trier - Church of Our Lady - It was unfortunately very dark in thus church.
Trier - Cathedral - View of the holy robe chapel (east chancel) from down the nave. It's designed so that no matter where you stand in the church you can see the red "crystal" background and the crucifix in it. Very clever! On holy days they raise the "holy robe of christ" up and display it on the background. I can imagine it's very provocative.
