-OR- Benedetto XVI ha presieduto domenica 29 giugno 2008 nella Basilica di San Pietro la liturgia per la solennità dei santi Pietro e Paolo. Durante la celebrazione il Santo Padre ha imposto il pallio a quaranta arcivescovi metropoliti. La concomitanza dei due eventi ecclesiali ha visto la partecipazione del Patriarca ecumenico di Costantinopoli Bartolomeo I. Dopo la lettura del Vangelo il Papa e il Patriarca hanno proposto l'omelia. Bartolomeo I ha auspicato che il Dialogo teologico tra le due chiese possa andare avanti il più velocemente possibile al fine di raggiungere l'oggetto del desiderio finale a gloria di Dio. Il Papa ha sottolineato l'importanza di una chiesa che non si identifichi con una sola nazione, con una sola cultura e con un solo Stato ma una Chiesa che sia sempre più di tutti.
