The cable cars going up to Sugar Loaf mountain. I cannot believe we decided to climb Sugar Loaf and take the cable car down. If we had known what we were getting into, I think we would have taken the car up and walked down!
Tufted ear marmoset at the base of the climb up Sugar Loaf. They are common in Brazil and are called saguis.
Another sagui
About 1/2 way up the mountain and still smiling.
great views of Rio from up top
happy to have made it to the top!
Rio at dusk
On the ferry to Ilha Grande, about 2 hours south of Rio
view from the ferry
looking back at the mainland
a view from our room on the island
the bay outside our lodge the next morning
A view of Abrão, the only real town on Ilha Grande. The island served as a leper colony and then as a maximum security prison until relatively recently. There are no vehicles on the island except a garbage and fire truck.
A view of our lodge.
The couple that owns the lodge has a couple of cats and a yellow lab above named Casão. The name means nurse shark but this guy is a real sweetheart!
see what I mean?
More sagui!
A momma sagui with two fuzzy-headed babies on her back.
You can see one of the babies' tails in this shot.
Here you can see the babies better, especially one of them.
Near Lagoa Azul, a beautiful snorkeling spot on the island.
The island has so many beautiful beaches.
Kevin enjoying one of them!
The boats on the island were really colorful and charming.
Here's another of our favorites.
