The River Spey is not all flat: there is a reason for the training, especially when you are carrying all of your equipment in your canoe!
The Bearneas bothy really only serves a shelter for cooking, etc. Everyone can sit around inside but there is little/ no space for sleeping.

The outdoors as a classroom - seem to work well for those who struggle to engage in a formal classroom setting.
Endurance and stamina can bring rewards and good feelings. The questions what do you want and how are you going to get it are oft repeated on a VT course.
You can't change the weather and mother nature does not how to be kind or show mercy; so, we need to ensure that everyone is prepared and has the tools to do the job
The outdoors can be a great classroom, not just for environmental lessons. Learning to work together, asking for and receiving support and effective communication skills are necessary tools for this environment and for life.
No-one said it was going to be easy; it can take a lot of soul searching to keep going when it gets really difficult.
