My equipment was still on the floor since my return from Antalya
I had still to dry them, after a week of trainning reentry in Herzlia
I landed in Antalya at the evening of Oct 30.
At the mornning of Oct 31, I took the bus from Antalya to Fethiye. Turkey Automn is yellow, not red like the flag
I turn my camera on...
This is a typical Turkish minimarket along the way. What can I do with potatos or hot chili. I bought: bread, olives, goat cheese, and even tuna. It will be my menu for the next week.
Here is all my property at the starting point in Fethiye. The toughest part is to carry them from the taxi to the shore.
The time was 16.00PM when I started. The sunset is 90 min later.
I headed to Osman place like 10km away, where I will do the night.
Osman place is a restaurant. There is no access from the land. The only guests were 2 miliarders with their 10 million $ yachts, and me.
At the first light, I left. Heading to the Batterfly valley about 30km away.
The stone walls along the way, means no landing for several hours.
I wonder if the origin of the word Turkize has to do with Turkey.
While planning the route with Google world, it was not clear if landing in Divers bay is possible. It is.
Also in Dalyan bay, but you should enter to see it. You cant notice it from the sea.
The sun up to 9.00AM, disturb to read the map
You should take care
Just to keep Turkey on your left.
I wonder what happened here in the Noach flood era.
Nothing is level or horizontal. Except my mood.
Nowhere to land
Here at last is the enterance to the Batterfly valley
It is a natural park. You can get there tracking from Ferrilia on the Lycian way (above in the photo)
Or by a kayak
At the mornning, I had my Turkish continental breakfast - bread, olives cheese and chay
And left the Batterfly valley
First turn left
7 km away
Is Kabak bay, where I hope to buy food and water. I found there only a camp site up in the hill, and a closed restaurant. (It was the end of the season).
They sold me some supply. But took advantage because they knew that up to Patara, there are no competitors.
This is the 2 colomns at the enterance to Kabak bay
Kabak in Turkish means squash
And this is the sign post. words are not needed.
From the map and Google earth, I couldnt see landing place from kabak up to Patara - 25km away. But in the mid way, I found caves to rest in, and even landing location
This one was promissing
impressing corridoe
It looks like a cathedral
It is like 20m high
Psychadelic lights in
very inviting
But the ceilling might collapse on me.
I left soon
But couldnt resist the charm of the next one
In Patara bay, there is only one mini market. I had to renew my stock: Bread and cheese. Also 2 tomatos. The owner insisted to give me a gratice pomegranate .
Now I had 11km of yellow sand shore... not yet
Just behind the corner
I reached the other end of Patara bay. There is a restaurant, and a mixed bathing beach.
I mean mixed - It is for men and women too. Poor Ata Turk.
I stayed there for the 3rd night. It was the first sand shore in my trip
Again the sun that makes me blind.
To rest my eyes, I had to look backwards.
There was 15 knotes wind straight in my face
All the way to the first possible landing
which was 14km away. But it was worth it.
I dont complain
I had in mind to go all the way to Kas for supply - you will understand why later on. But camped at the next beach, waitting for the wind to drop down.
Kas was only 10km away.
In the mornning of the last day, I woke up early to leave in the first light 6.00AM
I thought that I have finished for years to take photos of sun shines
But couldnt resist this one.
I shot again and again
Meanwhile I passed the enterance to Kas and didnt get in. I had to go 45 km today all the way to Kekova. On my right is the greece Island Megisti/Kastelorizo
I was there 2 years ago, participatting in a kayak race between Greece and Turkey
Castelorizo was the base of the German submarines in world war 2
While being there for the kayak race, there was a sweaming race too. Poor pedastrians.
We are still in Greece. You know.
Turkey is on the other side
View from the castle of Castelorizo
A closer view from the castle
Here is Kas. Now you understand what I while deciding to give up Kas .
But I am stuborn Donkey. I gave up this too, and kept heading to Kekova
At the next stop, I found out that this is all left for the next 25km. Was it clever to avoid Kas?. I devided the food into 2 portions. One now, and the next kept as a safety measure. (I have 2 more bottles in the kayak)
Here is the last stop before Kekova.
If you could see the photographer, You would notice 2 goats and a stuborn donkey.
From this point and on, I was mainly counting the km on the map
There is no place to land
Just rock walls
Like the Chineese wall
But here is something interesting
It looks promissing
At the end of the canion, there was half meter wide pass to land. But my folding Feathercraft is 60cm. And it is inflatable.
I have to keep away from rocks
There was no choise, but to open a table. Kekova is only 5km away. I can efford to finish the rest of the food. And even to smoke.
It was my last meal
But in Kekova (at the horizon). There is very good Gozleme (Turkish pancake)
I still remember the place from the last time. I landed as close as possible.
Kekova is very touristic location
But it is the end of the seasson now
The Gullets are waitting for the next year to take people to the sunken Roman city.
At the next mornning. 8.00AM, I met the same bus driver that brought me to Fethiye. I wonder where did he got his shoes
Back in Antalya, I found a whole line of the same shoes. I wanted to buy a pair as an original Turkish souveneer.
I spent the last day in the charming streets of the old center of Antalya.
This is Turkey
Thank god that it is only 1 hour flight away.
