(c.1680-1740) Built in Haute Provence around the epoch of Louis XlV. This marvellous Armoire Provencale is in walnut and was found in Aubagne, a small town south east of Marseilles where it had been traditionally used to house the ceremonial garment's of the town's notary. The straight lines and plain fielded panelling reflect the austerity of the Louis Xlll period ( see the doors and sides next image) while the turned sections on the front of the carcass and gallery above clearly show the influence of the Renaissance.
