Yellow Beach Ball 2012

After two years of Beach Balls without a Beach, Commodore Jeff finally got lucky. Despite serious weather threats, our illustrious Commodore made a call that the Ball would be ON, at Hallett's Beach, and what a great call it turned out to be. The weather cleared to a perfect evening, and a great time was had by all, as evidenced by the photo gallery.

Christmas Cocktail Party

The weather was particularly kind to us on Friday, December 9. After a fairly wet and unpleasant week, the weather held off and presented us with a perfect balmy evening at the Driftwood Cafe. Tina, Brian and the Crew provided a smorgasboard of fingerfood which would have done justice to royalty. The musical duo "just jammin' were exceptional and soon had everyone on their dancing the night away. Another fabulous evening at Akuna Bay !!

Dinner Dance Oct 2011

Despite the somewhat gloomy weather, the new "Driftwood Cafe" provided the perfect venue for a wonderful night of friendship and fun. With over 40 Club Members and friends present, Tine and John, Brian and Colin provided superb meals which were a nice match for the newly decorated venue. With a juke box blasting and a little karaoke later in the night, concluding another memorable evening on the marina. May the "Driftwood Cafe" thrive and prosper, as it provides a much needed facility at our favourite boating haunt.

Trivia Night

Another fun filled night of absolute nonsense, orchestrated by the Gardners, with the brilliant assistance of Joanne Stokes. As the photos show, it was a Hollywood theme, and most members made significant efforts to look the part. Winners on the night were Jenny Turner ("Chicago") and Admiral Dennis Stokes, looking positively awesome in full ceremonial kit.

Upstairs Blue Beach Ball

The weather refused to co-operate, so after much confusion and discussion, and under the cool calm guidance of Commodore Jeff, we decided to hold the Beach Ball in the upstairs clubroom at Akuna bay. The photos confirm that all was good, a great night was had by all, and the continual downpours during the evening confirmed the correct decision was made.

Australia Day BBQ at

As "the real" Australia Day was on a Wednesday, the Club Decided to hold our own special version on the previous Friday evening. It was a very special BBQ, as we invited the dockies and other 'workers' from Akuna Bay to share the evening with us. As the photos show - a great time was had by all !!

Christmas Lunch at the Marina

Perfect weather, a great crowd and some fabulous food. Just another normal ABCC function, where a group of keen boaties get together (any excuse will do, so a Christmas lunch was fine) for some fun and food. As usual, the party continued well into the evening on "H" Arm, with the usual suspects behaving in the usual menner - ALL GOOD !!

Lunch at Berowra Waters

Sadly only 15 members, and five boats made this very special lunch experience with an overnight stay (at NO charge) on the new eastside marina. The food was sensational, the service exceptional, the weather brilliant and the price more than reasonable. If you weren't one of the fifteen, do yourself a favour and take a leisurely trip upriver to Berowra Waters Restaurant for their fabulous Seafood Buffet, you will not be disappointed.

Season Opening Dinner at the Marina

The crew at 'All Senses' put on a splendid buffet style dinner, in the usual sensational environment of Akuna Bay. Over 40 Club Members and friends joined in the fun, the food and the odd drink or two (responsibly of course), accompanied by a little dancing to the Juke Box. Another great night of Club fellowship to start the boating season. These photos were kindly taken by Catherine and Alexander Frendo, thanks heaps.

Sez-Am heads north

6.15am on May 9, saw Captain Bob and the crew of Keith & Mike, slipthe ropes at Akuna for the trip noth to the Whitsundays. The story is covered separately in the news section, and photos will be added as the trip progresses.

Beach Ball at Akuna

The weather predictions for the Beach Ball were for thunderstorms and strong winds. The committee prudently changed the plans, and moved the Beach Ball to the upstairs restaurant at Akuna Bay. Strangely enough, the weather predictions were completely and totally incorrect (surprise,! surprise!), and a picture perfect evening eventuated. However the plans had been made, and they were carried out - more than successfully.As the pictures (thanks Warren & Wendy) show, a great night was had by all. Once again proving that no obstacle is too great for the ABCC Committee to overcome.

Marina BBQ Jan 22

An Australia Day theme BBQ was held in the Marina BBQ area as a warm-up for Australia Day celebrations. An enthusiastic group of Club members joined in for a great evening of Aussie food, fun and a serving of good old Australian poetry. Terry Arnold wowed the crowd with his "Ode to Akuna". which is now on the WebSite.

New Years Eve at RMYC

15 boats made the trip around to RMYC Newport, for pre-arranged berthing prior to a great night of food, fun and dancing at this great facility. The night finished with a wonderful firework display, and the new year started with breakfast in the Club Bistro. A great event shared by a like minded group of Club Members.

ABCC Christmas Lunch

The Cruising Club held their Christmas lunch in the upstairs restaurant, with decorations by Marcia and her band of helpers, excellent food (as always), by Joe and the team from "All Senses", great music courtesy of a Juke Box organised by Kim M. All in all, wonderful afternoon, followed by an impromptu gathering on "H" arm which rocked on till about half past.

Sea Safety Course

Several Club Members participated in a Sea Safety course, to gain experience in all aspects of marine safety. This included a serious practical session in the Qantas training pool. The attached photos give some idea of the practical nature of the day. All participants agreed that it was a most valuable and worthwhile experience.

AGM & Harbour Cruise 2009

Once again Sydney Harbour provided the venue for our Annual General Meeting, which was somewhat interupted by a rather long and sumptious buffet lunch on board the "Aussie Legend" This year the weather co-operated fully and we saw Sydney Harbour looking its best while we enjoyed one anothers company at another great Club function.

Christmas in July

Saturday Night, July 18th, and the upstairs restaurant was filled with the Christmas Spirit as over 70 Club Members and friends enjoyed a fun filled evening of great food, great music and more importantly, GREAT Company!! Check out the photos and weep if you missed out !!

Smith's Creek Raft-up

Perfect weather, great location, lots of boats, heaps of food and wine and colourful costumes all contributed to a fabulous weekend on the water. Adding more fun was the "P" theme, where members were encouraged to dress and bring food starting with the letter "P". The results made for a very entertaining weekend.

Peats Bite Long Lunch

Despite a suspect start to the day, the weather provided a perfect balmy Akuna evening as Elvis arrived in his Pink Cadillac. Over 50 members and friends then enjoyed a fabulous rock'n'roll night with Elvis (Paddy Twohill) and his daughter Jenny entertaining us till very late..

Hats off to Marcia Southern, and her band of willing helpers, we don't know how she does it but this event just keeps getting better each year. Almost 60 Club members and friends joined in the fun and festivities as Hallett's Beach was turned into a tropical island. Check out the photos.

Sez-Am to Windsor

Bob Taylor had planned on a trip to Jervis Bay with the 'Monday Mafia' as a shake-down cruise for his new Riviera 45' "Sez-Am". Unfortunately the weather had other ideas, and threw up gale force winds and atrocious seas, so plan B was put into action, a trip up the Hawkesbury about 70 nautical miles to Windsor. See Bob's report in the news section.

ABCC Australia Day 2009

This year, rather than celebrate on the water, the Committee decided on a land-based celebration of Australia Day. Despite the overwhelming heat, a hardy group of Club members assembled in the picnic area of Illawong Bay to indulge in a variety of fun activities. Eventually beaten by the heat, they returned to the air-conditioned comfort of the Clubroom at Akuna bay to finish the fun.

A well attended Christmas lunch in the upstairs restuarant continued well into the night as a party on 'H' arm. Another wonderful example of the great fun we can have at Akuna Bay, without even taking our boats out of the marina. How's that for fuel saving as well as minimising our carbon footprint?

Dinner Dance - 19 Sept 2008

Zak's Cafe provided made a brilliant venue for the Club Dinner Dance on a beautiful balmy spring evening at Akuna bay. Over 50 Club Members and friends were treated to an excellent Italian Buffet, and entetained by songstress Wedi Jackson. A fabulous dance and fun filled evening for all.

Navigation Course

Several Club members participated in a Navigation Course conducted over four Friday evenings. A most interesting and educational excersize for those who attended, it certainly taxed the brain on many occassions, but we won't have any trouble finding Refuge Bay again.

Resuscitation Course - 24 Aug 08

Surf Lifesaving presented a CPR refresher course as a follow-up to the First Aid Course that many Club Members participated in last Year. 16 Members attended what was a most informative and interesting couple of hours, a most educational excercise.

Trivia Night 2008

With 24 Club Members making up 4 teams of 6, a great (and noisy) night was assured. As always, Frank & Janet had prepared an interesting range of questions, covering a wide variety of topics. The lead varied throughout the night, but coming home strongly in the final straight were the "Glassy Arses" capably lead by Commodore Steve.

Anzac on Refuge

This year Anzac Day fell on a Friday, giving us a long weekend which included our annual Peat's Bite long lunch on the Saturday. It also gave us the opportunity to share the Friday evening on Refuge Beach, which is very significant in Australia's military history, as explained on the brass plaque on the beach. The Club's Annual Beach Ball was held in perfect conditions on Saturday evening May 8th. As the picture indicate, a great time was had by all, with the added bonus of the tide sneaking in during the evening, which only added to the uniqueness of the event.

Elvis on Refuge Beach

Saturday evening, November 17th 2007 saw a gathering of Club members for "cocktails, cheese & biscuits" on the Beach, little realising that "Elvis" would appear in the form of Paddy Twohill, a well known Elvis Impersonator. The photos tell the story, a magic evening amongst friends on Refuge Beach.
