First day in Paris, walking from our B&B to dinner
Walked by the river before dinner
Post-dinner walk to the Bastille
I like the car in the middle of this picture
Parisian streetlights
Notre Dame at night was so pretty
Pere Lachaise cemetery
Jim Morrison's grave
There were a ton of spiderwebs around, which seemed approrpiate.
If you look closely you can see a face/bust in the back of this family vault. Super creepy.
Wait, batman was buried here?
Awesome.
Sacre Coeur
Arc de Triomphe
We saw a few buildings with plants gowing out of the walls. I was impressed.
Metro
Louvre
Viaduct de Arts
A famous cheese shop. They were very nice and had all sorts of delicious food.
Jardin du Luxembourg
Hey, I know that lady...
Le Sainte-Chapelle
Arriving in Chamonix, trying to find a campsite
Found one! This view is 20 ft from our site.
Walking into town
Heading out for a long day of hiking!
I'm pretty sure that this was someone's house. And I'm pretty sure that's a picture of Bambi. And I'm pretty sure that says “Le Bambi”. LOVE it!
At about this time we started hearing twinkling noises and asked aloud, “what could that be?”
Happy cows, that's what. Wearing cow bells.
With a view like this, how could anyone be sad?
“Uphill face” isn't my best look.
Looking in at le Tour. We crossed the ridge directly behind the town in this picture, to make our way into Switzerland.
Ok so we may have taken a gondola up...
Center left, a little below the shadow, you can see a little peppering of black dots. Those are cows. We could hear the cowbells from the top, and it made me very happy.
At the France/Switzerland border
View from the campsite in Le Peuty
Probably the steepest trail ever. Okay well ever on this trip. This photo doesn't even do it justice, and we were hiking up.
Looking down at Martigny...
while eating some crepes
a random still-life that I found interesting, in the side of the amphitheater
amphitheater in Martigny
... that they turned into a movie theater. Sigh.
Chateau de Chillon
This looks like a dungeon area, but was actually used as a market/storage area. You can see the rocks of the island it was built on, here.
The other half of the basement actually was the dungeon. You can see the gallows, here.
The oldest part of the castle that is still standing is this tower, which is right in the middle of the complex.
The fireplaces were huge!
And the ceilings were incredible wood inlay designs. Want.
View of an inner courtyard
Arrival in Lauterbrunnen
View from the campsite in Lauterbrunnen
View from the campsite. SOoooo pretty. At night, they lit the waterfall from below.
View of Lauterbrunnen from the train to Mannlichen
View from the top of Mannlichen
That's Nick at the crossroads
After lunch, drinking some wine.
View from our lunch spot
One of the small touristy towns on the mountain
We got some local ice cream, hazelnut.
These goats were just hanging out next to the train tracks.
Cows!
Love the aesthetic of these houses: stained wood and flowerboxes with red flowers (always red for some reason)
Almost done with the hike. We caught the yellow train you see in the distance back down to Lauterbrunnen
That's the gondola we took up, and the ridge is Mannlichen
I can't get over this cow statue. Look at them bells!
On the train to Berlin
It rained all morning. Perfect traveling weather!
Beer garden in Berlin (Tiergarten)
The most incredible mosaic, I couldn't stop taking pictures...
Berlin's victory column
Another beer garden in Tiergarten
Potsdamer Platz
A church that was bombed out in the second world war. I visited it again later on, and there are more pictures of the inside...
KaDeWe, the second largest department store in Europe.
The food court in KaDeWe was crazy and beautiful.
Lunch with the labbies. Close your mouth Fred...
Thank you.
This place was fantastic.
Science! Note the righteous rat-tail...
More science!
This is the ceiling inside of the bombed-out church
Floor mosaic
Wall where part of the mosaic fell
Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag
Tomasz got a 1/2 beer 1/2 coke....
... and didn't care for it much.
