We boarded the train at the Schipol (Amsterdam) airport for the ride into the center of the city.
The trains are huge...kind of make the ones in England look like toy trains.
Winding our way up 5 flights of a narrow, spiral staircase at the hotel.
Inside our room. Lots of space!
The bed was the most comfy we've had on our travels. We even had memory foam pillows...those of you who know me really well know I love memory foam.
Rick Steves recommended.
Lots of bicycles and bike lanes.
This is not an illusion...the building really does lean.
There were these lifelike statues in several windows...freaking me out.
The Dam...major city center area.
Statue commemorating WWII. Has anyone seen the Borat Amerstdam video on youtube? If so, you will know why Edgar is doing that thing with his arm.
KFC is HUGE in Europe...
Big cheese shop...
Of course, Edgar is in heaven.
The main train station.
Supposedly, fries originated here. This was voted the #1 French Fry joint. They were good.
The first stock exchange ever.
They really traded stock, as in merchandise, not money.
I just thought this is a funny name for a business in Amsterdam.
More leaning buildings.
The church Pilgrims went to before they boarded the boat for America.
Statue in the courtyard of that church.
I just love how they all get around on bikes here. Who cares if you have kids or goods, just weld a big metal box to the front and everyone is happy.
If you look closely, you can see the pot starter kit...
Main tourist thoroughfare with lots of shops...very commercial
Couldn't get a better shot because there were so many people, but this is an organ music thing that just rolls down the street and plays music.
Back of the floating flower market.
Red Light District.
Can you see the red light framed windows? I was not brave enough to take any closer photos.
A city of tolerance.
The manequins were too lifelike...scared me a little.
I think WWII but I'm not certain.
Just a children's playground in the middle of the city.
Another bicycle wheelbarrow.
These men's pee stations are scattered throughout the city...sorry if you are a woman.
Now we have more in common with Willie Nelson than just Texas!
Drinking some OJ...
Happy, happy, happy
Anne Frank house.
Coffeeshops
More coffeeshops.
Beautiful city! Bikes, canals, flowers, and some other stuff...go, if you have a chance!
