MLK Day of Service
More than 1,000 volunteers of all ages volunteered at 20 neighborhood projects on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This event was one of approximately 1,500 taking place on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day throughout the U.S. From 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., volunteers cleaned and painted schools, places of worship and other facilities, did modest weatherization of some homes, beautified neighborhoods and facilitated financial education sessions in many neighborhoods mostly in north St. Louis. From 1:30 – 3 p.m., volunteers also took part in discussions on what they just accomplished and started a dialogue on many of Dr. King’s principles. Inspired by the life and legacy of Dr. King, Jr., Live the Dream — Live United is an intergenerational, interfaith, multicultural project to engage volunteers during the year throughout metro St. Louis.
