After the walls were put up from last week, we placed sheathing on the outside and worked on the interiors walls, simultaneously. We also started on putting trusses later in the afternoon. ~ Bao Lam.

After our hiatus at Ashley Oaks, we're back to Celebration Oaks! We've opened up two more lots for this semester, so we will need a lot more people out at the site. We started framing and finished erecting the four walls up by the end of the day. ~Bao Lam

11/22/08 Build - Ashley Oaks

This Build was mainly divided into two groups: drywall lifters and painters/diggers. While the house was painted over last week's primer on the outside, we got started on putting ceiling drywalls on the inside. We ended the build by burying an electrical conduit. Happy Thanksgiving! ~Bao Lam

11/15/08 Build - Ashley Oaks

The morning crew wrapped it up on today's build by finishing up the sidings on the house. Around noon, we finalized it by dressing it up with white paint! Our objectives were met by the end of the shift so there was little need for the afternoon crew, unfortunately. ~Bao Lam.

As a generous, charitable gesture to Women's Build, we had breakfast at Gator's Dockside before the build. Today at build, we mainly worked on putting tar paper on the the garage's roof while the others were finishing up the house decking. ~Bao Lam

Unfortunately, not many showed up to this build; however, we managed to get a lot done! We started doing decking on the main house and got about half way done by the end of the day. ~Bao Lam

Today, our roof crews continued building on the roof via decking the garage and installing truss braces on the house. Our ground crews installed windows and doors, while others continued with the sheathing. ~ Bao Lam.

10/11/08 Build - Ashley Oaks

Today, we construed on one of the best phases of the building process: the trusses! Personally, the best part was standing up on the precarious trusses and nailing them in one at the time. Your only lifeline was a piece of 2x6 piece of wood, separating you and 10 feet of air under you! ~ Bao Lam.

2/23/08 Build - Celebration Oaks

Rain, rain, go away! Today's build was at the mercy of the weather. Fortunately, we were on Mother Nature's good side. It was damped, so digging proved to be a bit of a challenge. Our digging team worked hard to contour the land, providing swells around the houses. On the other hand, our tiling team worked hard to be messy! 2/16/08 Build - Celebration Oaks

You've been selected to lots of digging! Along with tiling the bathrooms and painting, our main goal for this build was to set up the driveway (yes, more digging!) on the property of Women's Build. We finished the driveway and started to make a "moat" to irrigate potential rainwater. Thanks to everyone who came! - Bao Lam.

Work was overwhelming on this build (drywall and more digging...). We pretty much started from 8:30am and tried to squeeze in every drop of work until 4:30pm. At least 99% of our walls are done, lol. Big thanks to the people who stayed back! - Bao Lam.
