T76 Kálfstindar hæsti 010512

Fine hike on labour day up the peaks between Þingvellir and Laugarvatn, Kálfstindar. Hiked the little Þverfell and looked into the canyon Kálfsgil before we hiked up the two northest peaks which of the farthest one is the highest of this massif. Total of 12,5 km in 6:37 hrs. up to 882 m with total ascendant of 1.369 m. Most amazing was the canyon... simply have to hike more of those ;-)

A golden day on the volcano glacier Snæfellsjökull on the first day of summer with 36 members. Most of them hiking this glacier for the first time but this is the third time Toppfarar hike it. Sunny, completely still weather and clear skies almost all the time. Could´nt have been a better day! Total of 11 km in 7:45 hrs up to 1.450 m from 384 m.

Great hike up the volcano glacierer Eyjafjallajökull in a spring-like weather but sorry to say no sunshine and foggy and rainy in upper parts. No view from the top... we have to go again. Ended the day swimming in the unique natural swimmingpool of Seljavallalaus surroundes by mountain peaks and waterfalls all around... definately the most special swimmingpool of all ;-) Total of 16,5 km in 9:19 hrs. up to 1.664 m qith ascendant of 1.979 m. Great beginning of the easter holiday with great friends. Next year we plan to hike this glacier again in sunny weather from another route, along the ridge in the soutwest.

Tried to hike nine peaks around the valley Flekkudalur in the northern part of massif Esja but turned back in 549 m in a stormy wind over 20 m/sec. Just about 4,7 km in 2:29 hrs. We´ll have to go back one day and take this marvellous route on Esja later.

T72 Blákollur 8 tinda ganga 270312

Splendid hike up Mt Blákollur and seven other "peaks" or hills over a low ridge which lies between the mountain massif Hafnarfjall and the mountain massif Skarðsheiði in a bright and windy weather and very cold with frost up to -8 til -19 in the wind. Great trip with lots of adventures on the way like snow-running down long hills etc. Total of 16,9 km in 8 hrs up to 781 m highest point.

T71 Tröllakirkja Holtavörðuheidi 180212

Great hike on one of the trolls´s churces, this time on the mountain socalled on the heath Holtavörðuheiði where we were so lucky to get a very good weather, partly clear skies, sunny at times, very good view and little wind but a very cold weather, up to -21 degrees on the top im approx 6 m/sec. A dinner with games and lots of fun after the hike where more than half of the group stayed the whole weekend in summerhouses in the resort Húsafell. Great day up on the highlands ;-)

A golden hike in the winter sun up one of the majestic but low mountains of Lake Þingvallavatn and over and along the famous river Öxará. We decided to wait for the clear skies of sunday insdead of hiking in rhe rain on saturday and it was worth while... still weather all the time and not a grasp of wind even on the top of the mountain shich is rare in Iceland. Lots of very beautyful photos that day. Total of 16,2 km in 6 hrs. up to 785 m. It simply doesn´t get any better than this.

T69 Skessukambur Skarðsheiði 070112

New year´s hike on the mountain massif Skarðsheiði where we intended to hike around the valley Súlárdalur on the south face but enden on hiking only the ridge between valley Miðdalur and valley Súlardalur to the north face and back again. Total of 16,3 km in 8:40 hrs up to 500 m at Mt Eyrarþúfa, Mt Þverfjall 880 m and peak Skessukambur 1.040 m where we turned back the same route. Difficult hiking conditions with lots of wet snow and a foggy weather the whole time with raindrops in the beginning and frezing cold fog from 800 m where everything that was damp froze. Rather a demanding hike with lots of laughs and great spirits the whole time.

Alpine-like, christmas-like and unforgettable hike up Þríhyrningur in Suðurland on 3rd of December 2011. Clear skies and fresh snow all over... the sun low on the sky and we hiked during sunrise till sunset... then to hot tubs and dinner at Þjóðólfshagi where we stayed til sunday. Simply a perfect weekend with best people ever.

Great hiking trip to peaks in Snæfellsnes which are most likely seldom hiked. Still and warm weather and rather like summer than winter. We hiked up the Elliðahamar and along the south ridge and up there on the west side and then up the highest peak of the mountain before we took an adventurous hike along the north ridge where we hiked until it was dark. Total of 12,2 km in 7:50 hrs. up 867 m sith total of 1500 ascendant between all peaks.

Unforgettable hike up Volcano Hekla in a gorgeous weather and splendid view. Total of 26 members hiked 14,7 km in 7:32 hrs. up to 1.494 m with ascendant of 1.262 m. A little bit of snow fog at the peaks but still a good view when it cleared. Heat coming up from the volcano on the way which melted the snow... what a mountain... there is nothing like it! One of the most beautyful hikes ever.

T65 Miðsúla & Háasúla 240911

Great trip up two of the last five peaks we still had to conquor in the massif Botnssúlur in Hvalfjörður. Not a good weather in the beginning, heavy rain and some wind but the weatherforcast said it would get better and that it did... still and sunny after 1 hour hiking and clear view over mountains and landscape all around southwest of Iceland. Half of the group went all the way up the highest peak of Miðsúla but the whole group took the peak of Háasúla. Total of 14 members hiked 19,5 km in 9:00 hrs up to 1.036 m and 1.038 m and 965 m up an extra peak called Súlnaberg. Very nice to finish the last peaks of Botnssúlur! Planning to hike the whole five peaks in one big trip next summer when we celebrate 5 year birthday of The Hiking Club Toppfarar ;-) NOTICE! Hiking the most beautyful peaks of glacier Langjökull, Jarlhettur, where we hiked four peaks, Staka Jarlhetta, Stóra Jarlhetta and tvo of Syðri Jarlhettur, there of the highest of the Syðri. A Bright day, clear sky and rather warm considering the weather forcast which was around zero degrees since we where in aprox 10°C and almost no wind the whole time except up on the peaks and in the caps between peaks. Total of 11,5 km in 6:10-6:18 hrs. up to 672 m, 950 m and 696 m with total ascendant of 933 m. Simply a perfect day in gorgeous landscape of fire and ice.

An adventurous hike up the beautyfull mountains over little town and fjord Grundarfjörður in Snæfellsnes. Total of 33 members hiked from from the south coast up the moutain ridge and over to the north peaks where the fog took all the view until later when we were on the way back. Very rocky and hard land where we took some extra steep routes which only added to the adventurous atmosphere which was a kind of a "lord of the rings" or "harry potter" land ;-) Total of 13,8 km in 7:40 hrs. up to 999 m with ascendant of 1.057 m. T62 Smjörhnúkar & Tröllakirkja Hítardal 060811

A gorgeous hike up to two of the most exprexxive mountains above lake Hítarvatn in valley Hítardalur in west part of the country. Total of 22 members hiked total of 15,4 km in 7:18 hrs. up to 932 m and 948 m with total ascendant of 1.414 m. The ridge of Smjörhnúkar is one of a kind, more than 2 km of clambering over peaks of all shapes, colous and texture... the view simply awesome in a good weather. A great day up in the mountains.

Marvellous hiking trip from Dettifoss to Ásbyrgi through Hólmatungur, Katla, Hljóðakletta in a troll-like atmosphere of rocks and disasterous history of nature where the river of Jökulsá á fjöllum has changed the landscape over decades in catastrophic floods from the largest glacier in Europe; Vatnajökull. Total of 35,4 km in 11:45 - 12:02 hrs. Notice: I got the last pictures from wildboys since my camera was finished before we arrived at Asbyrgi.

60 Fimmvörðuháls Magni Móði 020411

Great trip up to see the new craters Magni and Móði at Fimmvörðuháls. Total of 38 members, the weather was good as hiking conditions an we hiked traditional route up from Skógar and down to Þórsmörk. Very good trip ans absolutely amazing to see the new craters as they were so hot, foggy and colourfull - simply a magnificent place to visit.

Nice trip to five peaks bacstage in Þingvellir undre clear skies and little breeze. Splendid view and plenty of climbing up and down rocks. A big eruption in Vatnajökull - Grímsvötn later that day... an historical day in Iceland. Total of 18 members - 6 hrs - 11,3 km - up to 780 m with ascendant of 1.010 m.

Aother try at the mountain Ok, this time supposedly in a better weather than January but it turned out to be npt so good with, yes, still at the beginning but windy near the top and sleechy. Very hard hiking conditons with wet snow and land almost all the way but the spirits were high and everyone pleased with not giving up and finishing all the way to the top. Total of 23 km in 9:09 hrs up to 1.193 m with ascendant of 1.050 m.

A easter trip to the volcano Hekla on jeeps as it was hard driving up there. Not a very godd weather forcast but we decided to try and started in a very good weather, sunny and still but in 1.136 m height we had to turn back since the wind was crazy. Yet a better weather on the way down and a splendid day up in the mountains after s 13,5 km in 6 hrs. Total of 21 members of Toppfarar took part.

The Hiking Club Toppfarar hiking Dalafell, Dalaskarðshnúkur and Kyllisfell north of Hveragerði where we took a long walk through hot springs and water in all it´s dimensions in a beautyfull weather. Hiking back we took a natural bath in a hor river that runs through Reykjadalur and finished the day after a 16,1 km in 7:14 hrs. up to 493 max height with total ascendant of 1.033 m.

T49 Ok Húsafell 290111

Total of 49 members of Toppfarar took a weekend winter trip to the forrest of Húsafell and tried to hike the mountain or the glacier Ok which is 1.170 m high but had to turn back since the weather was very bad. We hiked instead throught the forrest and up the highlands to the river Hvítá in Kaldárdalur and back which gave us a total hike of 15,6 km in 5:14 hrs. up to 482 m. After the hike everyone was totally wet and cold and we went to a hot tup and grilled us a lamb and danced unto the night before we headed back on sunday, very happy after a historical weekend... with plans to hike the mountain Ok some other day ;-)

T48 Grjótárdalur Skarðsh 4 peaks 080111

Toppfarar hiking four peaks in southeast part of the ridge Skarðsheiði around the valley of Grjótárdalur as a new years hike on January the 8th 2011. Rather hard weather conditions with wind and frost from -10 to -24 in the wind and very slippery almost all the way. This was a demanding trip but very adventurous one where everybody was well equipped and had mini crampions on which certainly was needen over the last part of the trip over the steep ridge of Miðfjall. We hiked total of 16,4 km in 8:20 hrs. up to 1.023 m with total ascendant of 1.411 m. One of the hardest trips and most beautyfull trips in the history of the hiking club Toppfarar and we were gloriously happy after that day.

T47 Sveifluháls Kleifarvatn 041210

A total of 31 members of The Hiking Club Hiking Club Toppfarar hiked seven peaks of Sveifluháls and walked around the lake Kleifarvatn saturday the 4th of December 2010.Very good weather was that day, almost clear skies, still and not so cold. We started the hike at 9:02 am or almost two hours before sunrise which was at 10:48 am and ended around 4 o´clock pm or about half an hour after sunset which was at 15:46 hrst pm. The hike varied a lot with constant changes of tha daylight and landscape as we hiked over old craters and rock walks and than along the shores of the lake Kleifarvatn which had warm and active small geysers at the south shores which among other geothermal activity prevented the lake from freezing in the frosty weather last weeks. Great trip during the darkest part of the year where one can be so gratefull for an outdoor day like this ;-)

Christal clear...-ly beautiful hike of the mountain club Toppfarar in Iceland on two of four peaks of Botnssúlur - Vestursúla and Norðursúla on November 6th 2010. We started at dawn with the typically pink colour of dark winter skies and enden on the top in 1.1004 m above see level with clear view to numbers of mounains and glaciers in the south and west of Iceland. On the way down we took an untraditional route along a ravine where a nameless waterfall awaited all all frozen with unforgettable look... Total of 17,2 km in 7:18 hrs. up to 1.104 m and 1.010 m with total ascendant of 1.363 m. One of those hikes that lives with you for the rest of your life...

T45 Hafnarfjall nine peaks 021010

The Hiking Club Toppfarar hiking 9 peaks of Hafnarfjall in Iceland on oktoberfest. Total of 54 members hiked 14 km in 7:40 hrs. up to 844 m with total ascendant of at least 1680 m. This was not a traditional trip since it was oktoberfest in the club that day and we had a lot of fun during the hike where various teams of the club made a scene on every peak which we filmed and photographed - see other videos marked each team and website www.toppfarar.is. A gorgeous day with lots of laughter all the way and oktoberfest following the hike till three in the morning where we went to a hot tub, tried diving and competed in waterpolo, were invited to mirror-party in Akranes and ended the day with dinner and dancing at a ball.

T44 - Tindfjallajökull - six peaks 110910

An unforgettable trip of 23 members of Toppfarar 110910 up to six peaks by the roots of glacier Tindfjallajökull where we hiked Haki, Saxi, Búri, Hornklofi, Gráfell and Bláfell - peaks that all varied in shape, colour and difficulty as did the weather... still, foggy, rainy, sunny and warm considering hiking from 864 m up to 1.312 m with ascendant totally of 1.300 m.

T43 - Ljósufjöll 280810

A very good hike in a splendid scenery and view from the light peaks in Snæfellsnes, called Ljósufjöll. Total of 33 participants of The Hiking Club Toppfarar hiked 16,8 km in 8:10 hrs up three peaks of 1.006 m, 1.047 and 1.067 m high with total ascendant of 1.400 - 1.600 m. One of the girls twisted her ankle so we were slow on the way back but the weather was so fine that we just enjoyed the whole day and ate berries tha last kilometers. Very precious day with clear skies all the time (but the first minutes) since Ljósufjöll are very seldom without clouds at the top.

T42- Dyrfjöll og Snæfell 060810

A four day trip to the remote northeast part of Iceland where we hiked one of the most breathtakingly beaufyfullest mountains of the country - Dyrfjöll 1.137 m - and the highest mountain of Iceland besides glaciers - Snæfell 1.833 m. Unforgettable trip with guides from wildboys in Egilsstaðir who told us that never before had so many hikers hiked the highest peak of Dyrfjöll before and up till now only three women are known to have hiked these mountains so 20 women of our group certainly made a record. One of our dearest trips ever in the hiking club.

T40 Kjaransbraut Vestfjörðum 190610

Four days trip The Hiking Club Toppfarar to the Westfjords of Iceland 17th till 20th of June 2010. First day we drove from Reykjavík to Þingeyri in Dýrafjörður where we stayed for 3 nights and hiked for two days. On the 1st day we hiked Kaldbakur - see album on that and on the 2nd day we hiked Kjaransbraut - an adventurous rout from Dýrafjörður to Arnarfjörður by the coastline. This day it was wet and foggy in the beginning but still and warm but the weather got better by every minute and we ended in a bright and hot weather after a 28,1 km hike in 8:59 hrs with little ascendant.

Four days trip The Hiking Club Toppfarar to the Westfjords of Iceland 17th till 20th of June 2010. First day we drove from Reykjavík to Þingeyri in Dýrafjörður where we stayed for 3 nights and hiked for two days. First day up to Kaldbakur, the highest mountain of Westfjords in 998 m height. This was a still and warm weather and great view but foggy on the top. Total of 34 partisipants hiked 15,4 km in 6:58 hrs. up to 998 m with ascendant of 951 m.

Toppfarar hiking on historical trails of Njála in a mild weather in an easy stroll. Total of 8,7 km in 4:05 hrs. up to 693 m with ascendant of 553 m. Grey ash all over the mountain from the glacier Eldfjallajökull which stopped its eruption a few days before this hike. Unfortunately we did not get a view over to glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Tindfjallajökull nor over to volcano Hekla but on a clear day these three volcanos are well in sight from Þríhyrningur.

T35 - Volcano hiking - Fimmvörðuháls 010410

A volcano hiking at the erupting craters of Fimmvörðuháls between glacier Eyjafjallajökull and glacier Mýrdalsjökull. Very good weather, sunny and clear skies, great path, innumerable icy waterfalls of river Skógá on the way up and up in the highlands with two glaciers on both hands we arrived at the erupting area with black lava all over the snow and in the air which got into one´s eyes and hair. We we took a total of 4 hours good look at the two active craters which erupted on March the 20th and 31st 2010 and the streams of lava everywhere and also the waterfall of lava. We hiked 38,5 km in 13:20 hrs. up to 1.051 m with an ascendance of 1.030 or a total of 1.900 m ascendance. At 21:45 hrs we headed back in the dark with 15 km on the way with the dark sky above us, enlightened by stars, the orange colour of the eruption and marvellous northern lights. At that point we realized that this was a hike of a lifetime... none of us had ever lived anything like this before...

An eight peak hiking around the valley of Blikdalur in the northwest part of Esja massif. A splendid weather with the sun shining and a little wind with a cloudy and snow-foggy weather at the top in 914 m. A total of 26 km in 8:35 hrs. up to a 914 m with ascendance of 873 m or a total of 1.471 m. Participants were 53 where two took shorter paths.

Total of 33 Toppfarar hiking the route "Leggjarbrjótur" with a detour up Mt Búrfell in difficult hiking conditions with a very strong wind at the top but a better weather on the route itself. A great trip with strong hikers with a total of 19,7 km in 7:03 hours.

Seinni göngudagur á 4ra daga ferð í Möðrudalsöræfum þar sem gengið var á Herðubreið fyrri daginn (sjá sér albúm) og um Öskjusvæðið hinn daginn en menn skiptust í nokkra hópa og eru þessar myndir af þeim sem óku að Öskju og gengu upp á tindana við Víti en þar skildu svo leiðir og þjálfarar héldu áfram hringinn kringum Öskjuvatn ásamt Stefáni Alfreðssyni í kyngimagnaðri göngu fram á kvöld. Seinustu myndirnar eru svo af heimferðardeginum úr öræfum.

T23 Hvannadalshnúkur 160509

Önnur tilraun Toppfara á Hvannadalshnúk helgina 15. - 17. maí með Íslenskum fjallaleiðsögumönnum en þrettán tóku forskot á sæluna og gengu inn Fjaðrárgljúfur á föstudeginum á leiðinni austur. Gengið var svo á hnúkinn á laugardeginum - lagt af stað gangandi rúmlega þrjú um nóttina og farið um Virkisjökul í gullfallegu veðri en hífandi vindi efst svo snúa þurfti við á hnúknum í um 2.000 m hæð og farið niður um Sandfellsleiðina en áður höfðu tvisvar nokkrir snúið frá. Frábær ferð þrátt fyrir svekkelsi með að sigra ekki tindinn.

K1 Baula 010509

Kröfuganga Toppfara á Baulu 1. maí 2009 í mildu og lygnu veðri. Snjór í hlíðum Baulu og fannfergi efst en ganga á Baulu er líklega auðveldari í slíku færi sbr. tindferð hópsins á fjallið í janúar 2008. Brúnalogn á toppnum og ógleymanlegar stundir þar við útsýni og brattar hlíðar allt um kring.

Ferð upp Botnssúlur í lok janúar í frábæru veðri sem endaði í skaðviðri sem var reynslumikið fyrir hópinn og mikið ævintýri. Ógleymanlegur dagur.

T18 Akrafjall 030109

Farin var nýársganga í byrjun ársins og taldist hún til tindferðar þar sem tindur desember féll niður þó hópurinn hefði gengið áður á Akrafjall. Þokusúld réði ríkjum þennan dag og fjallið naut sín því miður ekki en ævintýrið var engu að síður til staðar í vorlegu færi um háveturinn.

Ógleymanleg ferð. Sól og logn alla leiðina, brakandi hiti og logn á hálsinum, 12°C og enn heitar í Básum. Kvöldið jafn gott og dagurinn og ferðin í heild mjög vel heppnuð.
