2009 Flood of the Red River
In late March of 2009, the Red River flooded to a record of 40.8' in Moorhead, MN. We placed approximately 20,000 sandbags, each with 35lbs of sand in it, around our home at 28 River Oaks Point, Moorhead, MN in three days. We had hundreds of volunteers thanks to Melanie's extended family and her many life-long friends. We had a great dike and it held. Water damage to our basement came after we were forced to evacuate on police orders and a pump failed and 9" of water came into the basement. We never returned to the home.
