at the trail head
we will go along that canyon in the back
the view in the other direction
getting ready to descent
see that little canyon in the middle? it is about a 10 mile hike total...
only 6.5 miles left!
more beautiful formations
and here are the horses...
see how fast they are running?
you better get out of the way quick!
those are going up to the trail head
yeehaaaaa
the horses do have the right of way!
a beautiful formation to sit on
and a nice rock to take a pictures of - like a gazillion of other people do every day!
are we there yet?
yes! here starts the village
there will be ice cream there!
the helicopter...
..brings in some supplies
supai village
her are some of my fellow travelers
i need to use the outhouse
a mormon church
the village is in a beautiful spot!
but the campground is further on...
curtain call falls, one of the new water falls
this is a whole new river bed, created by the floods last year
almost there - any moment now i will see havasu fall!
look at that beautiful pool
and here we are...
havasu fall
at the bottom of havasu fall
the water is nice and clean and fresh and cool
and the force of the waterfall sprays it all over you
see that yellow tent? that's mine
home sweet home for the next three nights
some of my fellow travelers - we are getting ready for a day of adventures
the creek goes through the campground
today we go further down and will see money falls next
i met some very nice people from the village on the way
that is the top of mooney falls!
looking down to where a new pool has to be created with the help of sandbags - the floods last year destroyed the old one
looking down mooney falls
here you see it from the side
and here you can see the path down to the bottom of mooney fall. can you find it?
here is a close-up
yes, this is the path! not for the faint hearted...
i will be next to climb down
view of mooney falls from the path down
it is gorgeous! 200 feet tall!
eventually you won't even see these sandbags anymore
isn't it beautiful?
a bit downstream is the shower
very pretty, with fern and all
sparkling water
i think i will take a bath here
feels good in the heat
and now let's go a bit further downstream
i stay in the river
and find beautiful spots
and little waterfalls everywhere
and down and down
and then i get tired and turn back
and catch up with some of my people and we head back to money fall
here i take a picture of amy taking a picture of jeff taking a picture of mooney fall
a lizard caught a centipede
and now i think i will pose on the other side
back at the campground for a good night's sleep...
...and ready for another day of adventures!
hmmmmmm - breakfast
today i will go to beaver falls
there are so many beautiful places here...
...one runs into one every minute...
...again and again!
posing in front of geological tablets
beaver falls are just below
here is the view from above
of beaver falls
and here frombelow
and here i am right in there
enjoying the beauty
and the pools
cascading down
and it was even prettier...
...than the pictures can show!
some last looks...
a last dip in the water to stay cool
and i am on my way back
there in the background you can see mooney fall again
we are getting ready to leave
it is monday - the slowest day in the campground
almost everybody is gone
the horses are being loaded, and you can see the porta potties with their cage for helicoptering them in and out
there goes our kitchen gear
back up to the trail head
a last look at havasu fall
paradise fall, the other new fall above curtain call
here is curtain call fall again
a better angle
and that is how my photographer jumped out from behind the curtain!
this whole section is new, created by the floods last year
nice formations on the way back to the village
and i am back at the village
everyone seems to have horses
mondays, wednesdays and fridays they helicopter the porta potties out to take care of them
a view of the village
ICE CREAM!
in the village center
the post office
the jail
and the helicopter landing
it is a 5 minute flight to the trail head
and MUCH better than hiking back up those switch backs...
off we go
leaving the village
and following the trail
back out
look at this view
the trail is in that canyon
yes! i walked along here!
you can see how it stretches
and stretches
almost there
we are coming up to the landing
there it is
and we are back
that was nice!
here you can see the first part of the trail again
the view to the other side
horses waiting to be loaded with supplies
and the horses who brought up our stuff
