The GHOST incident again: this notice in the Mercury 26 December 1880 takes pains to stress that Thomas Nevin was discharged from the HCC for drunkenness and not for pretending to be a ghost on the night of Dec. 3, 1880. The "coward" ie the ghost was probably Edwin Midwood.
Town Hall Committee member Alderman Watchorn found it "most painful" to have to dismiss Thomas Nevin, Mercury, 7 December 1880.
