Spirit Black belt Grading December 11 & 12, 2011

Mr Malcolm Doidge, co Instructor at Spirit Karori, was part of one of the largest gradings undertaken so far by ITFNZ. 31 applicants, some form as far away as Otago, spent the weekend with Examiner's Master Evan Davidson and Mr Andrew Salton. A large contingent of 23 1st Gups, 7 First Dans and one Second Dan were being examined.

Fuji Mae Junior Belt Tournament 2010

Members from Spirit Kids, Spirit Brooklyn and Spirit Karori competed at this tournament held in wellington boys College. 19 Clubs in total from Wellington, Wairarapa and Central districts were competing.

D'arcy's last class 2010

Photos of D'arcy's final class as Instructor. Mr D'arcy Mellsop started "Spirit Karori" in 2008. He also coined the "Spirit" name, now used by the entire group. Mr Brett Kraiger, Head instructor, said that Mr Mellsop energy and commitment to to Taekwon Do stood out in his mind, from the day he first met him. All his students and ex students would agree that this was Mr Mellsop's hallmark and we had a final burnout training to show it was no different. As a mark of respect, Mr John Roxborough assistant instructor, commissioned a new 2nd Dan black belt for Mr Mellsop which was presented to him at the beginning of the evening. Pizza was served at the after function.

Spirit Group Photo April 2010 Grading (see individual clubs e.g. "Karori 2010" for more photos)

This Album contains photos from the April Gup Grading at Masterton. We all travelled over the hill together in a bus, hired by Spirit. Dubbed the "Road trip" and the brainchild of Mr Brett Kraiger, our Head instructor, we all got to Masterton safely and in good time. Taekwon Do 'bingo' was played on the bus for chocolate fish prizes! Everyone felt that the bus trip was a better way to travel, arriving on time and unstressed.

Technical seminar March 27, 2010

This was a follow on technical seminar from the 50IIC Instructors Conference in Auckland. Spirit clubs (Karori & Brooklyn) got together with Mr Brett Kraiger IV Dan, Spirit Head Instructor, to share information with Spirit Dans and Gups who were not at the conference.

March 2010. Mr Brett Kraiger's IV Dan grading and 'Spirit' at the 50IIC Conference, Auckland.

The 50th International Instructors Conference (50IIC) was held at De La Salle College Hall, East Mangere, Auckland over the weekend of 5 - 6th March 2010. A large contingent of Spirit instructors travelled to the conference to share in the Grand Masters's instruction. Head Instructor, Mr Brett Kraiger, was promoted to 4th degree black belt at the conference. The examination was conducted by Grandmaster Pablo Trajtenberg, Grandmaster Hector Marano, and Grandmaster Wim Bos (9th Dan Black Belts).

Black Belt Grading December 2009

This black belt grading had 21 participants and was hosted by Spirit Brooklyn Taekwon-do. 2 Brooklyn members were being graded, Mr Malcolm Doidge and Mr Justin Orsborn. Examiners were Mr James Rimmer 6th Dan and Mr Andrew Salton 6th Dan. 5 other Wellington regional clubs were represented, Berhampore, Lower Hutt, Porirua, Khandallah & Waikanae. Other clubs represented were from Central districts and Hawke Bay.

Inter club Black belt training weekend December 2009

This was a 1st Gup training weekend in November as preparation for December black belt grading. Mr Jake Pearson IV Dan and Mr Ben Sullivan II Dan took a combination of 1st and 2nd Gups from Spirit Brooklyn and Khandallah club on a four hour training session outdoors. Emphasis was placed on group solidarity (helping each other) endurance and spirit.
