Shakedown!
On Sunday, August 3, 2008, 3 scouts (Rebecca, Daniel) and 2 adult leaders (COR Stu Sanford and Skipper Shay Seaborne) headed back to Deale, MD to meet Captain Steve Alexander and give Amanda Grace one more try.
Stu put some of the seat cusions in their place, we stowed a lot of the cleaning and repair junk, had some review of command procedure, and started the engine on the first try. Rebecca backed us out of the slip, took a right at the end of the row, motored out past the breakwater down the channel, and turned into the wind. Daniel and the skipper unfurled the jib, raised the main, Caitlin took the helm, and we sailed so beautifully we could hardly believe or stand it.
The weather was warm, the sky was dotted with puffy white clouds, the breeze picked up, and Amanda Grace glided through the rumpled Bay like she was born to it.
