The Sierra Front, the Hilton Creek Fault, and McGee Creek. Today we learned about Global Positioning Systems--how they work, how to set up the equipment, and how to take measurements. We also learned the old-fashioned version, using a level transit. Using these techniques, we mapped a cross-section of the Hilton Creek Fault. In between tasks, we hiked up a moraine to observe the fault scarp and measure the strike and dip of the fault. Our day concluded with candles and song, in celebration of Jesse's 19th birthday.
