Off the KKH [near Passu] take a right along the Shimshal river. One comes across a lot suspension bridges on the way to Shimshal village.
I drove the 4 x 4 for about 10 km or so while our trusted driver rested right next to me. The whole drive from Passu to Shimshal village is about 52 km.

The trek begins along the river bed.
after a sudden climb of around 400m about 3 hours into the trek the track looks like this.
A shepherd's hut after the first climb is a good place to rest your limbs and have some revitalizing salty tea.

some relief as the track gets plain. The stark dryness of the trek gives it a haunting dimension.
